Topic: rear disc brakes

i have come to possess a 70 Baja, unfinished. The i see boxed swing arms that will accept a triple shock mount. there is no tranny in it. i don't have the brake calipers. is there some way to find out how to buy the right calipers? i looked over the rotors and there are no markings or identification that i can find. I'm also looking for a way to mount shocks. cut a hole in the wheel well and fab a bracket to the roll cage inside?i have so many questions. i also have three transmissions. how can i ID a bus tranny? one of them has many more ribs on the exterior of the case. i'm hoping for info on where to go find the info?
thanks, this is a great help,

Re: rear disc brakes

Normally Ghia front calipers and aftermarket brackets will work for the rear disc.
311-615-107/8 is the caliper part #.

Bus IRS trannies have a removable bellhousing.
Look this thread over for identifying festures.

Re: rear disc brakes

I found the calpers for the rear brakes. everything looks like it will fit. i'm going to install some braided lines for the rear brakes and fill it with brake fluid then bleed tyhe brakes and look for leaks or who knows what.
next questions are about the tranny, this rig is in the middle of the a conversion to 930 CV and axles mounted to a three rib tranny. Is there a guide on how to build the mounts for the trans? i'm willing to do the work, i just not sure what comes next. i've got boxed trailing arms in place with new stub axles.
thanks for the help,

Be easier to buy a bus conversion mount.
Let's you install a bus transmission in a sedan torsion.

Did you get 930 drive flanges for the tranny also?

Also there are 3 different 3 rib trannys.
Early style with the acorn nuts around the drive flange......weakest of the 3.
Came in early '68 busses.

2nd revision came in '68 1/2 through '71.
Better but still had same gearbox gears as an early IRS Beetle.

3rd revision came in '72 and '73 busses with the 1700cc pancake engine.
Strongest of the 3, can be identified by the mounting ears on the top of the bell housing.
Provided someone didn't change it.........
