No, you don't want a progressive carb on your VW. What do you have now?

I have the stock dual carbs. one is the master and one is the slave setup
rebuild kits cost way to much

Weber ict 34 kit works well on your engine. The progressive is just a bad set up on a VW, you can get it to work but if you think your stock carbs are bad  wink
JMHO from having to sort them out from 2 many people trying this set up cause it is cheap

is the 34 a dual setup?

Re: VW Weber Progressive Carburetor Kit For VW Type 4 Engines

sorry, yes it is a dual set up, but that is all you are going to get to work on your 1800 because of the set up. any single carb you put on it is going to give you running problems because of the long intake runners and no pre-heat tubes or warm air set up. You can try a progressive but I think it is a waste of time and hard earned money but this is just my humble opinion after wrench turning for over 40 years wink

Burrhead is right. Big icing problems. I've removed a few from buses to go back to stock dual or FI.

What is wrong with your carbs? Kits aren't expensive but if your throttle shafts are sloppy, causing a vacuum leak, then they need to be rebushed. That's not so expensive. Those original carbs are good.

If you insisted on the Weber then you need an air cleaner from a '70's car like the Pinto which came with a Weber Prog. Then you need the preheated air setup from a '75 FI bus. I could never find one of those air cleaners.

Some of EMPI's parts are not so good. Research before you buy. I have not used them myself.
40mm single throat?
