Topic: slammed bug, rubbing issue

Hey fellas

I have a 64 bug w/5" narrowed adjustable beam and drop spindles. Wheels are stock 4.5 smoothies and tires are firestone 145/15's.

I'm rubbing hard on the body when turning. I can only turn the wheel about 3/4 around from straight until rubbing occurs. What can I do to fix this without going up with it? Front is all the way down.

Thanks

Re: slammed bug, rubbing issue

"...w/5" narrowed..."

try going back to stock, still dropped, cuz 'Theres your problem!' 5 inches is a lot to take out of something that already just about touches on a hard-over turn. ask anyone who even has a 3" narrowed...

Re: slammed bug, rubbing issue

I don't want to go back to stock. There's a lot of other guys who are running beams narrower than mine, that are just as low if not lower. What's the secret? I knew their was going to be some rubbing but I can't even make a simple right or left turn without some serious rubbing.

Thanks

Re: slammed bug, rubbing issue

Seems like a common problem with lowering wink
IIRC stock rims are 4 inch so try them and a 135
I suppose you are going to say the ride quality has not suffered either  smile
Did you get ripped on the other sites two?

Re: slammed bug, rubbing issue

Oops they're 4j sorry. Ride quality has gone down the pooper but its not a daily so I don't really mind. Will 135's make a difference? Any other ideas?

I love TS but I figured id try a change of scenery:D

Re: slammed bug, rubbing issue

from what I read it will or maybe smart car tires. Can't help any more sad
it is an ongoing problem the lower and narrower you go

Re: slammed bug, rubbing issue

Either 135s or Smart car tires are what most of the guys with extreme narrowed beams use.  No idea if that eliminates or just minimizes the problem though.  Is the tire rubbing on the body or the fender?

You could try a spacer plate to move the wheels out a little.  While it defeats the purpose of a 5" beam, it's an inexpensive way to get a little clearance.

Unfortunately style is never comfortable, so when you narrow your beam that much there are bound to be new problems that you just have to put up with.

Re: slammed bug, rubbing issue

Cool thanks guys. The tires are rubbing the body, clears fenders fine. Ill try 135's if not I may just go to a wider beam. Wish I would have known before I ordered the beam. D'oh!
