Topic: Twin Falls/Magic Valley Pre-purchase inspection mechanic

Hi, This is my first post. I am looking at getting a Volkswagen (aircooled) and I need a local place to take it for a pre purchase inspection. Unless its customary to give the guy a day or two with the car before buying so I can take it to RMF in Boise. ANy advice or dvds about what to look for or anyone know somebody (or themselves) that can look at a potential buy in aircooled VWs.

Re: Twin Falls/Magic Valley Pre-purchase inspection mechanic

Assuming this air-cooled VW you are considering buying is drivable (and thus can test all mechanical operations):

- engine running
- brakes
- transmission
- electrical items

The main thing I would look for beyond this is how much rust does it have.  Depending on your abilities...your budget...or your goals for this VW...repairing (or living with the rust) could be a BIG factor in this purchase.  Also...you mentioned "Boise"...so I'm assuming you're located in the Boise, Idaho area.  Be aware...that most air-cooled VW's (unless in GREAT condition)...do not have very good heat for the Wintertime...and defrosters for the windshield (in many cases) don't work well either.

Good luck,

- Nick
