Topic: Similar Turn Signal Problem

This is a 1970 bug  convertible.   Both rear tail lights and front parking lights blink fine when I signal with my steering column lever.  But the arrows in the speedo do not blink .......also, when I pull out my red emergency blinker knob, it does not blink.  So, outside is blinking fine, but not inside.  ....What do I need to replace or fix???

Re: Similar Turn Signal Problem

check your speedo's turnsignal bulb. if the bulb is fine, check the connection of the wire, and the grounding of the socket.

Re: Similar Turn Signal Problem

I am a neophyte, can you tell me about the bulb, .....When I open the hood and am looking at the back of the speedo, where do I go from there?  Do I just find the bulb and pull out, or, do I have to pull the speedo?  Help me Rhonda.

Re: Similar Turn Signal Problem

No worries. I have some pics here to help you with your issue.

First, while looking at the back of the speedo, you need to find the main bulb holder at the bottom, which holds the 3 bulbs for Generator, turnsignal, and oil lights.

Next grasp the center bulb holder firmly, but be careful not to bend the tab, cuz they can brake.

pull gently till it pops out

then inspect the bulb. most times it will be blacked out, or you can see the filiment is broken. if it is, replace and reinstall.

Re: Similar Turn Signal Problem

my oil light wasnt coming on, because of a bad bulb, got a new now, and still nothing, I was a little frustrated, but it turns out the ground wasn't good enough for the socket. If this happens to you, try putting the socket in a different place in your speedo (that you know works) and see if it lights up. I did that, got a light, and just cleaned off the speedo with a screwdiver a bit, put everything back in the right place, and everything is chipper now. just a heads up.

Re: Similar Turn Signal Problem

Thankyou very much, I did check the bulb and it appears OK, .....actually, ther hazard blinker does not work (blink) on the dash when I pull it out, so this prob is not a bulb problem, and i assume the two are related.  So how do I check the ground socket....do you mean to just be sure the buolb socket is firmly seated??  And would that help the hazard bllinker?

Re: Similar Turn Signal Problem

well, your hazard switch does have a small bulb that can be removed if you pop off the red lens cover. It could always be burned out too, or just bad ground. jiggle it a little, check the bulb, etc.

and yea, check to make sure the socket is in good, and making proper conection. (and it wouldnt affect the switch).
