Topic: cuts out and dies after it warms up

Hey guys, new to the site and need some help. Recently picked up a sandrail and it has a 1600 single port in it. Did a full tuneup on it with new plugs, wires, points and condensor. Adjusted the valves also. Now, when its cold and on the fast idle, it runs fine. I can watch it while its warming up and it starts dropping on the idle cam. When it gets about 2 notches from the choke being fully open, it'll start to sputter and then it'll die. It'll start right back up as long as I pump the throttle and hole it open. This is my first vw so I am lost as what to do. Thanks

Welcome to Volkswebbin!

Check the idle cut off solenoid first. Two wires go to the carb, assuming it's stock, one on the right for the choke and one on the left to the solenoid. With the key on, but engine not running, unplug the solenoid wire and repeatedly touch it to the contact. There should be a solid "click" every time. If not, you need a new one.

If you need more info get the engine number off the generator stand and the carb number from it's left side. A pic of the engine would also help.

You should replace fuel and vac lines as well if they're not newer. Use cloth braided hose.

Re: cuts out and dies after it warms up

I checked the solenoid. It clicks every time. The carb is the brosol h30/31.  I will pull the fuel lines off and make sure there are no clogs. Will get the numbers today. Thanks
