Topic: An answer for this symptom??

Cruising along  my 70 bug just  cuts off, lights still on in the speedometer, I coast to a downhill street, turn on to it and get up some speed , let clutch out in second, and it fights me, wanting to wind on down, and then at the last second fires right up and runs like nothing happened.  Help me Rhonda.  True it couild be dirt in fuel line, but has happened more than once.  Any ideas > ?? thanks

Re: An answer for this symptom??

Sounds to me like your engine is not getting enough fuel.  Like you suggested...maybe a partially blocked fuel line, clogged fuel filter, clogged fuel tank screen...or maybe even something wrong with the fuel pump.

Re: An answer for this symptom??

You are going to have to determine if it is electrical or fuel. Best thing to do is pull over to the side if you can and see if it is getting fuel.
What I would do in a case like this is pull off the air cleaner and see if it is getting fuel  out of dump tube. If it is then you can move on to an electrical problem.
You are only going to be paying the guessing game till you see what is causing this.

Re: An answer for this symptom??

I had something similar happen to me a few years back (However it did not fix itself at the last moment). If all else fails, check your points. the contact head of the points on mine had broke.

And just for laughs--check to make sure all the screws and things that can vibe off the carb are all there--I had something like this happening once and it turned something fell off--can't remember what the mech said it was I was just happy and relieved it was fixed/replaced-wished I paid attention!
