Pics of the rear luggage.

Too long since an update... First my apt doesnt allow welding and I have been working on my new vw bug. An 61 for $550. So little I have done to this repair but my car now has a big hole ready for new metals to be installed. Ill need to redo the patches I made on the donor metal. The weld was too thick and I messed up on the grinding and weld didnt fill up well enough. Im sorry if it has been delayed too long.

I have just moved in a new apt and i am able to do more welding. alright here are some pics.
This section was pretty solid but i freaked out cause it had some tiny rust holes which can be fixed but it was too late so i had to fix up my problem.
New metals installed from the donor.

the welds are looking good and actually penerates through the metals. My previous weld was just awful and i was disgusted with my welds.
Now look at my previous welds and compare it to now.

the back looks better and actually fills the metal to metal.
the front of the weld.
getting closer. Just need to work on the rear luggage and prep it more to get it ready to be installed.
i forgot to add that i cut off the old metals before i did the previous post. So here are more pics.

Rusty!
started cutting off the rusty metals
drilling off the spot welds

so far so good
Thats all i have for now.
looking good there
More updates.
test fitted the rear luggage and looking good so far
I worked on the metal a little more before welding it on. Worked on the firewall to fix up the holes.
new metal fabicated

the other side
filled up the holes i made to get rid of the spot welds
Nice welding. I'm encouraged by how fast you improved your welds. I'll do some practicing first.

More updates. I am done welding the rear luggage. I just need to grind down the welds and then i can finally install it and weld it up in the car.
this is the other side and also cut off the bad metal to put a new one on.
I just bought this welding cart today from harbor freight and i am pleased with it. With this i bought an avil and plier to flatten the metal.
Honestly if i had a chance to go back and redo this i would find a exact match donor rear luggage and not have to go through all the trouble to replace the stamping part. This would have made the progress much faster but i learned my lesson the hard way. I have experienced this and next time i will do better.
Update. Very close with my donor metal. Most of the grinding job is done.

update. I installed the rear luggage today and welded it. Still more welding to do.

Pretty close then after that just little bit of grinding then painting the welds. Seal it then motor is going in.
more update and going fast.

just need to make some metal strip to fill rest of the gap.
update. worked on filling the gaps
i had to fabicate a metal for this gap.
made the strip and tried to match the stamping.
final results
pretty easy to do

Thats all then fill up one more gap then weld the beads.
Good job. Thanks for posting pics for us
Great work , your welds look better and better each time
