Topic: 1970 IRS Rear bearing Seals

Hi Guys,
Just getting ready to reassemble my 1970 IRS diagonal arms. I have a new kit that includes 2 paper gaskets, a large o-ring, a small o-ring, a thin metal washer, a double lip gease seal, and a new cotter pin for the castle nut. When I took it apart, there was no small o-ring, no thin metal washer and only a single paper gasket used. Is this all there is supposed to be or did the PO miss some parts? I have a Bently manual but there is no clear diagram. Can any one shed some light on this?
P.S. I got the spring plate tool....it made the removal and reassembly easy!

The parts you got were for a "swing axle" transmission used up to and including 1968 (although burrhead would also point out that a 68 autostick transmission had a IRS transmission....you just got the wrong year parts, thats all...

Thanks Yancey....that is sort of what I was thinking.
Does anyone had a good diagram of the 1970 IRS rear wheel bearing set-up? I am interested in seeing if there is a paper gasket used at all, it seems to me that the large o-ring may be the only seal needed between the backing plate and the outer seal carrier. The Bently manual does not have a good diagram and my Haynes manual is completely useless.

Good call.  I have found that that kit is the only place I have found that large O ring.  Yes you do need it.  Cotter pin an also be used.
