Topic: 1971 Turn Signal Assembly - Wires vs. Connectors?

Greetings,

I'm replacing the turn signal assembly on my 1971 Bug (for some reason, the '71 T/S assembly is unique). The old assembly has only three wires connected to the outer T/S ring connectors. The inner three T/S connectors have the wires cut. My new assembly has wires attached to these inner connectors (two are jumpered (grey/red/blk) and a grey wire connected to the inner rings middle connector. What do the inner connectors do? Can I just cut them off like the old one? Can anyone help out?

John

Yes, you should be able to cut the wires like your old one. The switch is made for many markets which some have side flashers also.Make sure to do it just like your old one. Good Luck

Re: 1971 Turn Signal Assembly - Wires vs. Connectors?

Thanks! The old signal only used the three outer wires. One is hot and if I toush either wire, the turn signal will light up, but not turn signals. Do the turn signals use the hazard light relay?

Yes, it's the same relay.

If they still don't work with the new switch check the 4 way switch, it has been known to come apart and kill the system.
