Topic: backfiring

My 68 Beetle was running good, no problem In november I put it up for a couple of months. Now when I start it , it is hard to start [new fuel in it] & when I rev it up it pops & backfires. I do not know the age of the plugs but the points are new. Thanks for your help.A.D.1

Re: backfiring

Does it pop and backfire through the carb or muffler?

Re: backfiring

Give the timing a check, a stock engine in a 68' should be at T.D.C., 0 degrees. ~~ Todd  { Hi Patty!!}

Re: backfiring

Patty...I believe it is through the carbs. This engine has dual carbs with no adjustment except the idle.

Re: backfiring

WHat MGMkid said is right. Also ur carb could be running lean
