Topic: It was a Scary drive... (whew)...

Yesterday I decided to drive Herbie because it was a nice morning... I saw that we might get a dusting of snow, but figured it'd be okay.

I usually leave at 4pm-ish... at 3:30pm I look out of my window at the office and see that the parking lot and roads are covered by that crunchy, slippery nastiness... UH-OH!!!...

I leave at 3:45pm for my usually 40 minute drive home, going no faster than 37mph only once. LOL

I did kinda spin out once, but thankfully my Western NY experience of counter-steering came in handy and I saved it. It isn't so much my car's Winter ability, but rather old and kinda hard tires that no longer grab the roads like they should.

I made it home by 4:35pm... had to take two attempts at the driveway (upward incline), but got ol' # 53 safely back in the garage. (I sat there for a few minute till my pulse slowed down.)

LOL

First time each year in the snow is an experience for most people. Had you used your western New York driving skills, you should have never spun it all   wink

Glad you and #53 made it

Glad to hear you made it home ok!  smile I used to live in Western, NY as well.  Traveled quite a bit on interstate 90 and New York Route 5 (right along the edge of Lake Erie).  Lots & lots of lake effect snow driving experience. smile

I grew up just across the NY border from Erie, PA... I know those roads well, Nick.

I can understand what he went through during that drive – happened to me too and it took me more than a few minutes to come out of the shock!! Those roads can be so nasty during that time of the year and if you don’t have your wits around, you can land yourself in serious trouble!!

The worst part of this whole thing is the non-stop cold that we've had. I haven't had another chance to drive it since... rediculously bad weather.

And here I had been hoping to get my engine back in before now. Glad I'm taking my time... no engine eliminated the temptation to take it out in the nastiness!

It FINALLY was warm enough yesterday evening that I was able to drive Herbie to the car wash and get the salt from that nasty drive off, and get it clean.

I really need to get the heat cable fixed, cause I so love driving it... such a joy!!!
