Topic: Idle

I have inherited a 1973 aut stick Super beetle. I have taken the carb apart34PICT 3 ,soaked it in carb. cleaner.Blown it out, in an effort to get it to idle. It runs good at fast speed, accelerates real well. I have adjusted  the mixture adj screw out 3 turns from seat. bypass screw out 3 turns. Timing is set by static timing until I can get it to idle.I have sprayed around the carb while it running on high cam no change in running.I also took carb off of my other 73 to try it out on this one & it still will not idle. It works well while on the car I took it off of. There is something I have not covered but I just can't see it. Thanks

Re: Idle

Check for power to the electric idle solenoid and make sure you don't have leaking intake boots, I'm assuming still a dual port  motor wink

Re: Idle

Possible large vacuum leak somewhere between the intake manifold and the clutch servo. Remove the big vacuum hose that goes to the vacuum shift "thingy" on the drivers side of the engine and plug the "nipple" on the intake manifold and then see if it idles.....

The idle solenoid is this the same as the fuel electromagnet  cutoff solenoid as it is listed on my carb rebuild kit? thanks for the reply.

Re: Idle

yes, the same thing.

Re: Idle

try to turn back the pilot jet a tad to see if it works. Usually it could be all the way in and causing not to idle because it is blocking the passage in the carb.
