I would love to but it is to dang cold there for me. Besides nary a mention of cookies.
heart broken, I am.
I think james dagg did a write up on replacing the defroster hoses. The hardest part was not cutting your arm on the carpet nails inside the body.

It is not that hard to get the stock system in working order, besides all the hoses can be had new now unlike a few tears ago, non existent.

stay away from the spray foam, look at late model bugs  with the vent by quarter window.
Maybe you need a modern vehicle with heat, AC, power everything, etc, etc.   wink

Welcome. I would suggest getting a Bentley manual for your year. It should have  an exploded view of the heating system.

Re: Happy (Herbie) Halloween, everyone!!

The paper hoses in the A pillar are easy to replace. I did a step by step write up. Even if they look good they unravel on the inside so it can't be seen.

Any attempts at electric heat are usually disappointing. I use a small electric heater for rear defrost but it only clears a small area and uses a lot of power. Gen light comes on at idle when it's on and voltmeter drops to below 12. Would work better with an alternator but it would take two of them for the front window and that would use 20 amps.

Re: Happy (Herbie) Halloween, everyone!!

I only look at this solution (the electric defroster) because I DO know of someone who had success, and have the instructions as to how to do it... and this is only possible because I do have an alternator and I also do have a larger Crankshaft Pulley which gives my engine really nice overall power.

I haven't done anything yet, but I am considering it...

Re: Happy (Herbie) Halloween, everyone!!

You just have to be careful using an electric heat/ defrost. If they are good they use a lot of juice. Still don't know what the big deal is about not fixing it properly?
Engine power has nothing to do with it. Big ass stroker motor still puts a nominal 14.7 volts.
