Great looking bug, love it!~~ Todd
Thanks, Todd...
Here's some more from Sunday night... I moved the skeleton in the driver's seat, and added a severed arm coming from the trunk. LOL

(note: I'm probably going to have to have some touch-ups done to the paint and stripes in the spring, but it's still looking pretty good for a daily 3-season driver.)
I swear the first pic looks straight out of a Herbie movie!! Ha ha..loved the skeleton!! Great stuff! I've got a 68' myself so I'm kinda partial!!!~~ Todd VW
That is sooooooooo cool!!!
Wish your car was in our drive last night!
There is a kid (4 yrs old) in the neighborhood who goes crazy when he see my bug---HERBIE HERBIE HERBIE>>>HERBIE...
So he came by Trick or Treating last night--he was all over the car so I let him and his little friend sit in my bug and I started it up and honked the horn for them---talk about giddy kids!! He kept saying Momma come and smell him he smells great! hahaha
He gave my bug a big kiss on the hood before he went on for more candy--and I got big thanks from his Mom who thinks I have created a bigger monster hahahahaha
Hi Patty~ I've got a 56 sunroof and a 67 Standard sittin' in the driveway, and I am painting my 68 in the garage, the kids last night were goin' nuts! 2 kids said when they reach 16 they want one! Ahhh the generations of V-Dub lovers continues!!
I drove the Bug into work this morning... 29 degrees... BRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!! :-)
I'm driving my Oval till' I get the 12 volt 68' back on the road, glad the ole' 6 volt battery started up this am! Colder here in Maryland!!
Keep converting the teens!!!
I'm still driving mine too---it's a bit like peanut butter in the crankcase but it still wants to gooooooo...
And I have to find that sweet spot of heater/vent/side window for keeping the windshield clear of frost.
Oh and of course gloves and a scraper.
I've been thinking about installing a 12 volt hair-dryer with tubing up through the front defrosters... just a on/off switch on the dash would work fine. (I've heard that as long as you don't leave it on high power it will last years... a guy put his on high instead of low and burnt it out real quick.)
My heater boxes are in great shape, but the heater cable broke from the cabin to the boxes... once I replace that it'll heat me out, cause I've got an over-sized wheel on the engine that really throws the air!!! (Like most of these old cars, the paper channels from the floor/foot area to the trunk has been destroyed/removed.)
I might spray some Great Stuff down those side channels to keep the heat from the heater boxes from escaping into the trunk and being wasted.
I have an original idea regarding your broken cables and heater hose. Why not fix them correctly? I have heard the parts are readily available ![]()
And on a side note. Sir Yancey, Halloween is over time to take off the mask. Oh you don't have it on. I'm sorry.

Depending on exactly where you would be spraying the "Great Stuff"...I would be careful...for two reasons:
- if you ever want to remove it...it could be a real pain in the butt
- water/moisture/condensation can get trapped...and cause rusting...and eventually rot.
Just something to consider,
- Nick
burr... I honestly can't see cutting a hole in the foot panels to be able to get in there and attempt to re-attach a new paper hose... only to re-attach a defrost system which was mainly considered inadequate to begin with. The carpet/interior looks great, and if I was having to do that as well I might consider it, but I'd hate to have to do that work again. It's ok... breathe... I'm not the first person to attempt to improve on an original design. L0L
Nick... the condensation issue is at least (to me) a decent concern. I will consider that fear as I do my change, and possibly will just forget plugging that channel with anything.

I wasn't 100% clear where you were thinking of "shooting" the Great Stuff. If you were talking the area where all the tubing/plumbing is that goes from the heater channels to the defrost vents for the windshield (and keep the heat from going into the trunk area like you mentioned)...you could probably do something less permanent than the "Great Stuff".
Heck...just shove some old rags down in there (or something similar)...or actually plug the tubing that comes from the heater channels with something. I know how finding the paper/plastic tubing to connect things can be tough or impossible to find. This way if you come across an idea of how to reconnect things so you have defroster heat again
...you won't have the hassle of removing all of that "Great Stuff" spray insulation...which REALLY sticks to everything.
Good luck,
- Nick

Sorry, did not realize disabling the original system is improving it. I'll have to look into that so I don't freeze off my tallywhacker when I drive this winter. Any more hints how to go about it?
probably just use j tubes instead of heater boxes would be the best bet, no?
