How to fit tail pipe grommet/washer (70 bug)

For the muffler to heater box connection, the curved washer goes on first, with the inside of that ring towards you..then slip on that fiber ring, then the muffler goes on, you are kind of making a sandwich with the flared rings and that fiber ring.  The tailpipe connection, slip the ring on the pipe, {inward curve toward the muffler}, then the washer, then offer it up to the hole in the muffler. O.K.? Then the 2 clamps completely cover the rings, make sure they cover top and bottom, or it'll squish the ring and become a Helluva mess..you want equal pressure to hold things in place!!
