Topic: Compufire question

Hey folks, havent been here in over a year, life fell completely apart but I'm BAAAACK!
Compufire ignitions are on sale from Moores for $50 so I figure nows the time.
Question #1:
Bosch blue coil ok for this system? I mean is there any different coil requirement when using the compufire?
Question # 2:
If the compufire ever fails is it really a matter of "popping in" the spare points and condenser (possibly with a pen light on the side of the hiway) or is it more complicated?

Thanks guys,

Re: Compufire question

I have the Pertronix electronic ignition in my Beetle.  I'm using the same coil that I used with the points that were in my distributer...but of course the electronic ignition folks want you to buy their coil. wink

If you have an extra distributer...and you can set it up with a set of pre-gapped points...yeah...you could pretty much just "pop it in" if the Compufire fails.  Of course the engine timing wouldn't be perfect if you're doing an on the roadside repair.  This is assuming that you don't have any trouble removing or inserting the distributers.  I know that if your distributer has a new O-ring...they can sometimes be a pain to insert.

Or you could pull out the Compufire components...and reinstall the points & condenser in the same distributer.

Hope that helps,
