Topic: Lubricate Windshield wiper motor, 1970 Bug?

This great bug convert is 40 yrs old and the wipers work, but a tad sluggish.  Could a few drops of 3 In One Oil in the right place save me a burned out motor in the future?  Is there any preventive maintenance that someone can suggest?  Many thanks.

Welcome. More than likely it is the pivot points that come out of the cowl that need lubed. Sometimes you can spray lube on it by taking off the wiper arms. Or sometimes from underneath the hood. But best bet is to take out wiper motor and linkage, disassemble and lube that way. The factory grease gets hard after 40 years.

If you have an ammeter you can measure the current draw after oiling to check things. It should draw 2.5 amps on slow and 3.5 on high. Page 27 in the Bentley electrical chapter explains this test and what it means.
