Topic: North America's only VW Museum?
A local enthusiast decided to go big time recently, and moved his massive collection of VW stuff into a commercial venue, obtained VW authorization and opened "Funbugz".
Funbugz is heralding itself as North America's only VW sanctioned museum (anybody know of any others?), and seems to be off to a good start. If you're ever out to Vancouver Island, it's worth the trip to Coombs (about 2 hours north of Victoria) to check out the assorted shops and (of course) Funbugz.
They have a website here: http://www.vw-museum.com/index.html
I went there with my family a couple weeks ago, and enjoyed looking through the assorted items - a few cars, some parts ranging from "oh I've got that" to "well, you don't see one of those everyday" and a wide array of collectible scale models and literature.
One thing that knocked me for a bit of a loop was seeing my family name on the original owners manual for a 1974 La Grande Bug, along with the imprinted plastic card they used to provide. Our name is not common, and I didn't recognize the individual's name until I talked to my folks and found out who he was. Thought that was pretty neat.
