Topic: Hey We're Back!

Looks like the little vacation from Volkswebbin is over...and the site is up & running again! smile

Have fun,

Re: Hey We're Back!

Hiya Nick,

Yep, looks like we're back on our feet.

This outage was different (for me at least) than the others we have experienced.  I got messages indicating that my browser could not even connect to Openroad, let alone get to Volkswebbin'.  Anybody else notice this?  So, I'm wondering if this was a bigger problem.  Might have to contact Darren and ask about that.

I think I was getting the same messages.

Re: Hey We're Back!

I was able to connect to the openroad homepage, but that was it. Anything else brought up the error page.

Vacation? It was more like torture to me!
I was so lonely for AC stuff that I almost followed home a guy who said he had a 64 on a rotisserie!

Yeah my family won't let me talk about VW's anymore. Good thing I've met a few local fans.(fanatics?)

Re: Hey We're Back!

The down time actually gave me an opportunity to connect with members of the "local" club that I kind of belong to.  Samba isn't really any help any more and, without Volkswebbin's members, I tried the forum on the club's site.  While it didn't result in a solution, it did let me know that there is a group close by that is very willing to help.

Too bad that club meetings tend to be a 100-150 mile round trip, something my VW hasn't been reliable enough to accomplish.

Re: Hey We're Back!

I don't think the outage was much different from previous ones - early on, I was getting a message indicating script errors...which could result from a process crashing or the database going offline.

Then I was getting the page not found messages, but I seem to recall having those before as well.  Those would be expected if the server was offline due to a complete crash, swapout or rebooting.

I didn't try going to oroad's main page though.

Main thing is, it's back!  Have to admit I was getting worried with it being down for a few days like that.

At least we never lose data. We have a collective history here.

That's for sure!

My first post here was well over 10 years ago, I think.   I can't think of any other forum where I can say that, or even come close to it.

I have not had a chance to "connect" with the local club here yet (MIVE). The first Cars and Coffee had a lot of great cars and some VW's, but no air cooled ones. I missed the second C&C due to scheduling conflict and they did have another KG show up. Maybe next time...

Speaking of connecting, I saw a light blue mid 60's bug in beautiful condition Friday, but for some reason the driver would not even glance my way. Odd.

Yup, it's back now.  Power supply in the server died while I was off on a conference sad

New site (with data migrated!) coming online soon.

Sadly, currently air-cooled free.

Thanks for the update, and the ongoing support, Darren!

These gremlins seem have a way of knowing when the "best" time to hit are, usually coinciding with the short term departure of the site's maintainer.  I've got the same gremlins "helping" my own sites from time to time, also with impeccable timing.
