Topic: Need tip to fix headlight

1970 Bug convert, one of the headlights just stopped working, both parking lights work fine.  Got a new headlight, but is there a first step to take when I "look down in there" that might be a fix for the existing headlight before I get over-involved in the replacement?   What are things I might do before an all-out replacement?  Maybe the existing light is fine, and I might find a connection problem in a place you may know about that i dont know about.  thanks

Re: Need tip to fix headlight

Replacing an old incandescent light in a 1970 VW is about as easy as it gets.  Just:

- remove the single bolt that secures the head light trim
- removed the 3 bolts that secure the headlight to the headlight cage
- unplug the old headlight

Installation is the opposite of removal.  This whole process should take less than 10 minutes.

Hope this helps,

- Nick

Re: Need tip to fix headlight

Headlights do burnout, however...

Does the high beam on that side light up? If not, you may have some electrical troubleshooting ahead of you.  At any rate, the first step of troubleshooting would be removing the old lamp anyhow...

Plug the new lamp in, then test your lights before putting everything back together.  If they work, no worries!

If they don't work, you'll need to get to the root of the matter.  Check your ground, check for power at the socket...use a test light...
