Tom,
I can't seem to send you forum mail.  I have a question..

I have a 2003 Ultima Mexican beetle.  I was planning on driving it to Texas (Austin). Since we have a condo downtown possibly keeping it there for when we visit, just getting the proper insurance for Mexican nationals...  Reading through the forum I found out it may be a problem.  I am a Mexican citizen, living in Mexico.. I just sepend some time in Austin during the summer, etc..  Do you think I could drive it there w/o a problem at the border, or with the local police?  I have all the Mexican registration, etc.. up to date.  I also heard from some guy here in Mexico that he heard about some Mexican getting his car impounded for not meeting emissions, and some other compliances..

Thanks!

Hi cj,

I also live in Austin and have seen several cars with Mexico plates driving not only in Austin but also in other Texas cities. As you are visiting, emissions, etc. shouldn’t be an issue, but you will need to carry liability insurance as well as your passport and Mexico drivers license. This website should be able to give you a clearer picture of what preparations you’ll need to make beforehand. Happy travelling!
