Topic: more carb part identification pictures...

I dismantled an old intake manifold to use on my next rebuild and I'm just curious what this vacuum port looking thing is thats bolted to the top of it?

Sorry for the grainy pic (high temp matte black paint doesn't seem to photograph well in low light!)

I'm very confused, since there also appears to be another vacuum inlet that is capped off, and this larger solenoid looking thing that's mounted to the top.  My old manifold was for a Webber, and my last build I had dual carbs, so I've never really seen a stock manifold with this stuff on it before.

Why would a manifold need one, let alone two vacuum ports??  Don't you normally just pull vacuum from the carb?

Re: more carb part identification pictures...

That is for the EGR valve 73-74 vintage

Re: more carb part identification pictures...

If it's a left manifold one port could be for the altitude corrector which worked with the throttle positioner on the carb. '71's had this. Not sure which other years.

Re: more carb part identification pictures...

Yeah Webber Prog ???
Man your talkin a Chitt Load of work !
Still wont Aspirate right !!
Best to Go DFAV on the prog and then you need 2000cc or less to runn it ??
But no less than 1776cc to aspirate it correctly !
  1776cc or 1835 or 1914 cc is best !!
Then you need the Correct manifold ??
Lott of Junk manifold's sold for Prog's !! By Reputable Vendor's and shop's ! Go figure!
Reason was they would Plenum chamber the manifold's in an effort to get it to aspirate correctly on 1600cc like the Fiat !
Fiat's were Plenum chamberd would Runn the Smaller Progg !
Later the DFAV came out and you would see them on Pinto's and the Old 22R and 20 R Toyotas !!
Very . Very few of us ????
Swear by Progg's !!
I blanked around many year's as in Many many Year's off and on with Pinto's and Toyotas , and V.W Prog appplication's !!
I have a 1776cc Cammed and CCR Combo that work's the way it is suppose too !!
Only combo Ive found that work's with V.w. and a Progg application and it requires a 2 Hole shot manifold !!
Dont use a EGR Manifold on your motor unless you have too !!
  Avoid it !!
Im thinkin could cause Flow problem's unless you hook a EGR up !!
And a EGR on a Bugg is redundant somethin V.W. did as an after thought so that they could pass Calif 1974 emmission's Then Federal etc as well as there fuel injected model's etc etc. ! !
  Frikin 80's were Blanked up come's too emmission's control's !
THe whole frikin concept defies the Physic's Formula for Work !!
Took um 20 blankin year's to get around to re designing head's and Fuel injecting etc .
But the Govt should be Sued in conjunction with all the other American Car Manufactures for Perpetrateing such a Farce on the American People !!
1980's computerized carb's <<< Somebody need's an Arse whoopin over that crapppola !!
My Book's on 80's smogg are Waist High when stacked ???? LMAO
   Total B.S. ??
  Still is !!!
  Blankin Commie's !! Liar's . Cheat's and Crook's with Control Freak Issue's !!
  Physic's prove's them wrong on Emmission's control !!!

Re: more carb part identification pictures...

So I'm getting the impression that I can remove it and cap it off with no worries...

Is this manifold worth any more than a regular stock intake manifold without these components? (ie: does anyone have a specific need for this or is it hard to find, etc?   I can probably get another manifold for my purposes, rather than disassemble this one if it might have a use to someone else as is... )

Thanks guys

Re: more carb part identification pictures...

Nah I prefer Manifold's with no orfices of any kind !
Yeah you could plugg that one it would work fine !!
Look like some kinda After Burner from a Buck Rogers Movie ?
But mostly It's Flow I would be concerned with ???
