Just another thought.  Usually an o-ring has something to do with sealing the hydraulic fluid in the jack..and so with a bad o-ring I would think that there would be some sort of fluid leak.Good luck figuring it out...let us know what it was,- Nick

If an o-ring is bad it won't cause a leak all the time, just lets the fluid by pass and lose pressure like in a bad MC.
Just think of it as a learning experience when you tear into it. Did you get a schematic with the jack?

When I was wrenching I purchased a 2 1/2 ton Snap-on Mo#ya700. Its been a very dependable unit and has given me years of trouble free service. I wont even begin to tell you what they socked me for it. $$$$$

Just think, What would life be like without all those bugs?

Well that's good to know if any of my jacks fail!

Re: Hydraulic Floor Jack - Who Makes A Reliable Unit?

Good morning all,

I found this website useful (http://www.hyjacks.com/index.html), when my two year old craftsman began leaking all over whenever I tried to use it.

There is a link at the top of the page that describes the inner workings of a jack.

I hope it is of some use to someone else.

Re: Hydraulic Floor Jack - Who Makes A Reliable Unit?

Thanks John! I finally gave up the rebuild idea after unsuccessfully trying to budge the giant nut on the top of the cylinder, am taking burrhead's advice, and heading to Harbor Freight today for a new jack. I'm keeping the old parts in case I get inspired to re-tackle it some day.

Re: Hydraulic Floor Jack - Who Makes A Reliable Unit?

of course we should all be doing this anyway, but if you're crawling under a car that's on a HF jack, don't be lazy and skip the blocks/jack stands. Not exactly the highest quality units I've ever seen.

You're actually not supposed to crawl under any car regardless of the quality of the hydraulic jack...always use jack stands, ramps, etc. before crawling under a raised vehicle.
