Topic: My car was in the movies?!?

I know there are a few movies with KG's in them, but I found out our particular Ghia was in a movie. The previous owner mentioned that her father had been asked to bring the car down for a scene shot in Detroit. I dug around and sure enough, there it was. Just a background vehicle, but I still thought it was cool...

Re: My car was in the movies?!?

A movie shooting in Austin called me a year ago looking for a Beetle for the next day's shoot. They had a restored 60s lined up, but wanted something more colorful than white. They decided my Mexi looked too new.

Too new? Guess the wanted that patina. It bothers me sometimes that they take a good car and damage it on purpose to make it fit the part. An example is the car used in "Pretty in Pink"; they took another car or a baseball bat and dented up both sides of the car, which was a Ghia lowlight. There was another movie where they tried to make one look like James Dean's wrecked Porsche by taking a backhoe to it and just crushing it up. They didn't have to do anything to mine since it was just a background vehicle. Besides, it obviously was before the last respray because you can see rust below the front vents, so there was no way it would look too new for them. BTW, the movie was called Zebrahead and was released in 1992. That's Michael Rapaport driving the Jeep in the last pic. Funny to me was the fact that in 1991 when the movie was shot, the rear door seals were still missing, lol.

Re: My car was in the movies?!?

A friend of mine found out how flaky the movie biz can be (or commercial biz). Out of the blue he was contacted by a company in Hollywood that was shooting a commercial and wanted to buy several of his classic cars for a total of $80,000, but after getting all exited about the sale he found out they changed their minds at the last minute!

Bummer eh?

He was recently an extra (or his '66 Dodge Coronet was) in the upcoming Coen Brothers movie A Serious Man tho so that's pretty cool. And he some how contracted to sell one of the main '66 Coronets used in the movie, which reminds me I have to work on putting together some of the movie shoot video footage he took. eeeks, better stop procrastinating. smile

I tried there first, but they did not have the movie listed. Had to go to Blockbuster online and actually purchase it since it was not for rent.

That screen capture you posted is from Pretty in Pink. They dented up the driver's side the worst, removed the headlight bezel too but that's minor. Why do they have to damage the nose, and right on the ridge!
