Topic: I am at one again....

...with the VW community!!!

After so many years of unreliability due to lack of maintenance (making and raising kids-what can I say!!!) the bug is finally back on the road and feeling like a new car!!!
Found a great  VW trained mechanic nearby my hometown and he did a bunch of little adjustments (carb blwn out, fan belt adj, valve adj lubby dubby doo...) and switched out the clutch and throw out bearing, bowden tube.  Now it doesn't chatter or die in intersections or is hard to down shift and runs like a top--wipeeeeeee!   My kids are so excited to be finally taken to school everyday in it--and so am I --until snow flies and it gets parked!   The neighbors are gonna love 3 cars in my driveway again hahaha!

I took it out for  a couple spins and burned out a signal light bulb--no sweat-- I'm on my way to Canadian Tire!! hahaha.

Finding someone who knows what they are doing with these is so hard these days, congratulations on getting the bug running right!

Paul certainly hit the nail on the head there!

Best of luck with a functioning Bug back on the road.

Free parking, especially if it's got a "53" painted on it!
We have too many vettes up here, a bug gets way more attention in these parts just because there are 5000 vettes to one bug.

Re: I am at one again....

I just got back from Disneyland.  Why, oh why, is there no sign of Herbie anywhere around there?

Blasphemous!!!

Great Patty B
Is  the young kid an apprentice? Wondering how in the world this thing works? What's points anyway? LOL
I seen herbie at a local car show?

Re: I am at one again....

Burr--I think the kid is an apprentice/helper.   The actual mechanic is taking the picture.  I believe the mech with the backwards cap is his son using the table with my engine is on.
I'm convinced the last apprentice that worked on my car-- unbeknown to me, a couple years ago--put 4 liters of oil in my car--keep away!!!.

The car runs like a top!
My kids' schools are only blocks from home but I deliver and pick them up everyday in it!!!   They love how we bring smiles to everyone who sees it--I wonder how long the novelty will last before they are throwing apples at it or stealing trim in the parking lot.   Even bullies smile and are friendly with my kids in school --for now.   Peace and love!!!
I can drive this thing any were now!   And I am!!   Aren't WE lucky we VW people????!!!!!!!!!!

Oh....And I drove it back home -2hours at highway speeds at midnight, to avoid heavy traffic----it was great---almost melted my running shoes the heat was so good on the floor and not too shabby on the window once I got the vent windows just right.

Now a question---I have the kind of seat belt that has the white latch that disengages lap/ shoulder plug in part-----has anyone ever lubed that latch mechanism before??   How would I do that?  I don't want grease all over our laps and don't want to spray WD 40 willy-nilly in the slots.

Thanks to those of you who've replied  =+)

And I didn't need to go to Crappy tire for a bulb--my dad had one in his tool box.  I was probably 25 years old--gotta love vintage parts hahaha!

Wow that much heat! Wait till winter gets here   wink  lol
Try vasoline for a lube the latch.
