Topic: Senior Moment

I can't for the life of me remember how my Bilstein jack used to go into the spare tire bay! I've looked and looked at it, but it's been out so long I just can't recall.

I've searched this site and the Samba, (apparently my antiquated browser won't drive the Samba's search engine) and I don't have an owner's manual. I asked this question on the Samba and haven't gotten a reply. So if anyone knows where there is a picture out there or can provide a good description, I would appreciate it.

By the way, I carry a bottle jack for changing tires on the road. I just want to carry the Bilstein in place for show.

Re: Senior Moment

Hiya CW,

On my 70 Bug the Bilstein jack rides in the clamp just to the left of the spare tire as one looks in the trunk from the front of the car.  It is stowed in the clamps with the round base on top and jacking mechanism just below that.  The receptor (in the jacking mechanism) for the jack handle/lug wrench faces the front of the car.  The jack handle/lug wrench is inserted in the jacking tube at the bottom of the jack as it sits in the clamp

Re: Senior Moment

Thanks, Clancy. Now it only remains to see if the jack will still fit in the compartment with a 155R15 mounted on the spare wheel...
