Topic: Where to tap carb for vacuum advance port?

I have dual EMPI Brosol 40MM carbs and I have a competent machine shop that can tap one for a vacuum advance line - I just need to know where to tap it on the carb.

I saw a post (I think it was on thesamba) that had a dozen images of vacuum ports on various carbs, but I cant seem to find it any more hmm

thanks

Re: Where to tap carb for vacuum advance port?

Hey Nic the whole Vaccum Advance thing as far as my Knowledge goe's on the dual K- dron's ?? Is a Low Bugget Racing thing ! These are the Guy's that are doin it !
As to Seperate Opinion's ?? Ive asked and been told yeah it's nice But Dependin on what your runnin ?? As to how much of advantage it really is !
But I would go intoo Low Buggett << not sure if they have a step by step Bu these are the Guy's that are doin it !
If it were me ??? I would Buy some 34 MM Venturi's for that motor and Jett it !! No Cross over tube Runn a true Plenum !
But Low Buggett are the Guy's I think you would want to talk too as too Vaccum Signal Porting a sett of K- Dog's !

Re: Where to tap carb for vacuum advance port?

I used a brass vacuum inlet from an old carb, tapped and JB Welded around the outside. With the carb top off of the body you will see two 1.5 - 2mm holes, one above the other. You must use JB Weld and a tooth pick to block the bottom hole. Fill it from the inside out, not just smeared on the hole. The one you are filling is just behind the tap and below the butterfly closure line.

Re: Where to tap carb for vacuum advance port?

71 Georgia: thanks! What are the two 1.5 - 2mm holes, and why does one need to be filled?

Sean: why are they called 'Kadrons' ?

Also, I've read that there may not be enough vacuum to correctly advance an engine if the cam is 'long duration' but no one has specified what 'long' is ... I have an Engle 110 cam which (from my understanding) is longer than stock, but very mildly so... is this correct?  And is anything longer than stock considered 'too long' in regards to running vacuum advance off a carb?

Re: Where to tap carb for vacuum advance port?

They are for the vacuum port once tapped. I believe they would be used together for a DVDA and only the upper one for SVDA. The lower one resides below the butterfly so it would have suction at all times and the upper is above the butterfly so it will have suction once the carb is actuated, thus advancing the carb. I did mine about four months ago and it made a hell of a lot of difference. I have not put it back on the dyno but I would say that I probably gained 10 to 15 HP and I have increased my MPG to 19-25. I have the 40mm Kads and a 205P SVDA. Not sure why they are called KADRONS but you can find all the other questions here. http://www.lowbugget.com

Re: Where to tap carb for vacuum advance port?

Georgia >>>> Hell of a lott of difference <<<<< As In ?????????? Cause with out the Dyno ???? Im not convinced this is a horse power Gaine !!
Smoother THrottle transistion / Progression at lower RPM's << Might Buy intoo that ?
I asked Joel Mohr about Signal portin when Low Buggett first started really advertisin it was the way to go !
Joel Told me He use to work with one of the Guy's Runnin Low Buggett Racing when He worked For Gene Berge !
He wasnt all that impressed with it at the Time I asked Him about it ??? Maybe He has since changed His mind on it ??? I Dont no !!
But realize also that like Georgia say's a lott has to do with the Build as to wether this would be the way to go or not ! Like Camm , CCR , Distributor curve , Head's and Valve size, exhaust size , Venturi size  etc. etc. It's the Combo's that get's result's !!
Have no Idea why they call um Kadron's << German for Dual Plenum ??? Hell if I know ?? Start me to Lie-ing this early in the Mornin ??? Could just mean 2 Tuna Cann's drilled out and filled with Gass ??? LMAO

Found it, Brosol/Solex is the carb and the Kadron company manufactured the kit and high performance upgrades thus producing Dual Kadrons.
