I always wanted to see one of these projects. I heard about them in the past.  But isn't that V8 too tall for the hood? Or did you plan on putting on one of those old custom kits for the front I'm not sure exactly what it is called.  Would be cool if you got the bug hood to fit stock though.

That '66 is looking pretty worried!

How 'finished' are you planning?   I'm interested to see how you fill the gaps.

Looks like it's getting there, and t looks like you did a really god job of "integrating" the Beetle body onto the pickup truck frame.

Keep up the good work...thanks for the update!

Unfortunately we have been slow at work which means no overtime so extra money to work on the project has slowed down sad         But I've still been working on it here and there.  In fact I just got a drive shaft put in it and go the engine exactly where I want it.  If I get time I'll get the engine mount adapters welded to the frame soon.
I also swapped out the th350 tranny for a 200r4 4speed with OD.

If your interested in more of these V8 projects check out: http://carmensbugs.proboards.com/index.cgi?

I'm hopping I'll be able to fit it under the stock hood, In those pics the engine was sitting about 6" to far forwards.  I had it in the spot it would be for an S-10 V8 swap to start out with, but it needed to be moved back.  I might also have to mount the alt. on the bottom instead of up top??

I ended up finding out that using the rear half of a 2 piece rear drive shaft from the 3/4 ton chevy truck that I bought for an engine donor gave me a perfect fitting drive shaft, and got my engine just were I wanted it.

With moving the engine back I think I'll be more likely to be able to fit the engine under a stock, or stock looking hood (it will have to be widened 8" like the rest of the car)  See the pics at the end of the post.

Patty B:
I'm pretty sure the 66 is going up on ebay in a couple weeks.........  I've been thinking about keeping it and building a V8 VW truck out of it, but right now I could really use the money to work on the project I already have started.

Eventually it will be completely finished, won't be a rat rod or anything like that.  I'll have to do a little sheet metal work to fill in the 8" gap from widening it, and maybe some fiberglass in no structuall parts.

I'm actually thinking of cutting the windshield frame off of what is left of the front part of the car and scrapping the rest.  I'm thinking it would be easier to start from scratch and make my own rather than making a new firewall and dash to fit whats there, repairing the lower hinges on both sides, rust repair, etc......   We'll see though smile

Nick:
Thanks, like I said its slowing down a little, but slowly but surely its getting there smile
