Topic: help! new con rods wont come apart

omg.. its only noon and im already stuck.  its shaping up to be a fantastic day.

ive got brand new connecting rods and I can't get them apart.  i've tried heat, penetrating oil, air impact wrench, and good old fashioned elbow grease and box end wrench.   these bolts will not BUDGE.

From what I can see, there are no "locking" sleeves that are peened onto the bolt, it just feels like the things have some mutant strong loctite on them... any suggestions?

UPDATE
I put a wrench on one side and layed the rod onto some rags on the ground to make an 'A' shape... then I stepped on it until it went flat.  *poink*

First time being 350 pounds has come in handy!

  Yeah there Tuff ! Ive had to chuck um up in a Vice and resort to usin a Spanner wrench to get the nutt's loose ! Or steppin on them like you did work's !
  Toyotas the worst ! Every Bolt / nut Snapp's !Then a Little Rust Dust cloud emanate's from them when they Snapp !
Part of why Toy is such a good Unit I think ??
Make sure rod capp's go back on way you took um off Keep numbers Matchin . Use plenty break in grease on assembly !
  Rod's should fall Gently with no jerkin ! Nice and slow and smooth glide !

  Only slowed down cause Im Snappin and poppin like a Bowl of Rice Crispy's << What happen's after 30+ year's of >> Can you look at this , Cause it's not like you said it was ?? LMAO
  Use Loctite on the Rod capp Nutt's and Ping them with a chisel After torqueing !
  2 Basic Type's of nutt's the type with a lip for Pinging or Pinnin and then the other Type that supposedly dont need to be Ping'ed << I ping them any how ??
  Dont tapp on threads of the Rod stud !
  Putt a nut on them and then I use a Brass hammer to tapp top of the nut <<< Evenly on both sides !
  There's a Feel to Pullin Rod capp's off with ease ! Only problem is that By the time you figure it out ?? Your allready so arthritic from year's of strugglin with them that you can barely hold on to the rod !
  Ohh that Elbow Pain from Popin your Elbow and wrist when you snapped them nutt's loose ?? It never goe's completely away ????? LMAO
  Middle finger Knuckle still Dislocates every time I use a pair of Fencin Dyke's ?? Go Figure LMAO

You can ruin your rods....if you take the caps off improperly.
Use a rod cap remover. You may Buy one at Summit racing for under 20 buks.
If you don't use the rod cap remover you risk getting the big end out of round and destroying your Rod bearings over time

  Yeah never seen one ?? Never even heard of one ! Guess if you beat on um with a Hammer and get it crooked I can see where the Round Peg goes in the sqaure hole !

  Yeah be carefull with them ! It's Possible to bend them ! 300+ LBS standin on them << Might not be the Best method !

  Yeah look thing's over carefully ! For nick's gouges ! I use a Little Sparrow Tail file to Deburr !
  Ilike to set my Dizzy drive first << Mean's you need the Dizzy you intend to use !
  I sett my Drive and Dizzy then grabb a Old Junk rotor for the Dizzy so you can twist and turn it back and forth also insures drive is installed right !
  Then I sett the crank ! Lil twist back and forth on the Dizzy rotor to meshh the gear's and she should sett right down on the Pinn's .
  Rotor need's to be pointed at Number 1 Posistion ( Farthest Fuel pump stud to the rear while the crank Pully is TDC and the #1 Rod is at it's fullest extent of it's Travel .
  Once sett Lightly twist dizzy rotor back and forth ! Crank should slide back and forth !
  Play with it a Lil bitt !

I second Sean's suggestion of setting that distributor drive gear in place now.  Makes setting the play/shims real easy.  Most of the books tell you to do it way after the engine is bolted together, but what a pain in the posterior.

Also, make darned sure you get all the grit from your clearancing out of the case and oil galleries or it will be back to haunt you in a very not nice way.

Setting the crank into place is a lot easier if you set the bearings in place first (bit late for once they're on the crank) and lightly score them so you can see the proper alignment.

Water Hose and a Sharpie !
  Sett bearing's and mark the bearing in the case ! Then install in case ! Dont be afraid to hose her out with High pressure water hose and Degreaser << repeat the Process several times ( Case only ) Crank shaft use Carb cleaner and compressed air .
