Re: BFY Obsolete? I'll tell you what's obsolete!

BFY changed was sold sometime during the 90's before I started shopping there. Darren has tried to keep it going but I don't think it's the same.

Re: BFY Obsolete? I'll tell you what's obsolete!

Okay write sucker on me also because they got my money...  ordered a part from them February 17th, thinking it would be here in a week or so.  I only ordered one thing from them because I have not done business with them before so I wanted to try them out.   At the same time i ordered parts from OE Vee Dub and EIS, thinking they would not get here until after my bFY part.  Well a week later here come my OE VEE DUB and EIS parts but no parts from BFY.  I thought maybe tomorrow it will be here but no, the next day no.  Well I started calling and getting different people on the phone and they kept giving me the run around.  They could not ever give me a tracking number but kept saying it shipped.  I called today March 12th and their damn number was disconnected.... Now I am mad I have been waiting almost a month and no part ( My project has now been held up waiting). Needless to say I am going to be trying to get my money back and will NEVER order from them again.

ORDER YOUR STUFF FROM OE Vee Dub or EIS, around a week or less shipping time

NEVER ORDER FROM BFY

Re: BFY Obsolete? I'll tell you what's obsolete!

As a follow-up I JUST TODAY got my money back.  December 1st until March 27th and not one part or item shipped.  EVERY excuse and Lie you can think of was played.  There is just NO excuse for being this vindictive and stupid in this day and age to not have SOME customer service.  Lies about availability, lies about shipping, lies about credits, and not just one guy but Darren, Scott and the english guy.  They all play the game and blame it on the other guy (or girl) absolutely amazing how pizz poor they have been.  My project was backed up how many months waiting for either parts or money.  my original plan was to do a ton of welding etc over christmas break.  We are now at Easter and still no parts in hand.  Never ever again.

thanks for the rant

hey  - ordered $500 on dec 1 2008 on three orders for in stock items of course they took the money from my visa ASAP. But after three weeks of calling and emails to Darren (at least 10 times each) i am still waiting for stuff because they are waiting on "some parts to come in".  Finally gave me a tracking number today for UPS and surprise it does not work. So last monday it shipped supposedly and should be here anytime soon is now a worthless tracking number and the audacity to tell me "well we sent you like 5 emails".  Oh yeah - not one of them had a tracking number on it.  I be done with them - cheap is cheap for a reason.  Beware - be very aware.

It is an amazing crowd out there - They think we don't talk to each other.

You were lucky to only wait 60 days and even luckier to get your funds back.

Beware - be very aware  Wolfsbergwest is my new favorite supplier

Re: BFY Obsolete? I'll tell you what's obsolete!

Heh bfy obsolete.  Yeah I remember.  You know the original owner I belive was Rich Kimball.  I went in there and talked to him when I was still in high school.  He was a very pleasant man and had a sense of humor.  I don't know if I talked to Darren there on the phone or who it was, sounded like some young guy.  But when my car got in a wreck I called in about some parts and he started getting annoyed that I was sourcing the parts for my body shop.  I found this rude, so I stopped doing business with them.  Although I let the body shop decide what was needed to order.  My body shop managed to repair my rear clip without having to order one from bfy.  Anyways, they, like many other aftermarket parts shops, don't carry very good quality bug parts any more and are forced to stock sub-par things.  I purchased some tail light lenses for my bug there and while they are just 'okay' they are nowhere near the quality of the 1998 VW/Audi branded plastic nor the German Hella OEM stuff.  I ended up finding a pair of OEM mint/brand new red Hella for the rear of the car and later on replaced my vw/audi set with some I found on ebay after searching ebay for an entire year (I'm not even lying, persistance is the KEY to getting quality volkswagen parts, settle for nothing less. This is a German car after all.)

So yeah I still am sitting on a pretty plush mid 60's model type-1 but I sure get tired of dealing with BS from people selling parts.  I quit frequenting Samba because it is filled with trolls and VW shows kind of went down hill after they quit doing the swap meet at Sears Point Raceway.   The parts just aren't as widely available as they were between 1996 and 1998 which is when I purchased the majority parts for my restoration/custom.

I found one guy in AZ and one guy in Concord, CA that run shops and they are very top notch when it comes to customer service.  Also of course Wolfsburg West is an excellent place for parts and they will let you know the quality of parts and specific details about them if you have any questions.  Plus they are always coming out with something new.

One other thing I should mention is that Vintage had good parts. I don't know if they are still around.  And OE appeared to have good parts in stock but I haven't ordered from them.  What is cool about OE is they try to stock only OEM stuff like genuine Hella and such.  Of course it seems like these days for Hella headlights all you can get are the euro style glass which some like, but I prefer the clear glass which came stock on bugs from the factory.

Well I'm going to get back into the VW shows a bit but still going to be cautious who I deal with.  I have been screwed around by regulars and well known people on Samba before and been literally flamed when I posted that I didn't get the parts done the right way.  Those Samba guys sure are a different breed with the attitude they have.

But overall I miss the mid 1990's volkswagen scene.  It was a lot of fun.  Maybe since I was a teenager at the time, all the BS just kind of flew by me and I just didn't notice.  Teens sure have a HUGE threshold for that kind of stuff.  I wish I was still a teenager.
