Topic: BFY Obsolete? I'll tell you what's obsolete!

Customer service, that's what is obsolete. I hate to slam a company and most of the time I just shake my head at bad service but DAMN!. April 10 I placed an order with the BFY Obsolete.com, 18 parts at $115.30. Mostly cosmetic stuff but a few need now mechanicals. 10 days go by and my account status has not changed. I shot them a note inquiring about the order. I received an email back from Darren Dudley that stated "You should have them any time". Another 7 days go by and I received a package, a small and light package. Light by 10 parts. In the partial package was a hand written slip that contained what items were missing. It stopped after 3 parts. I immediately picked up the phone and contacted them. If I'm lying, I'm dying. The person on the phone told me "well maybe he got tired of writing, the rest of your parts will be a few days behind this partial shipment". Unconventional but I have parts coming.............so I thought. For those keeping track at home we are now on day 17. I forgot to add that one of the parts in the order was wrong, ordered a RH tail light received a LH, shipped back at my expense and  so on and so on. Another ten days go by and nothing. I emailed again inquiring about the remaining parts and the returned tail lens. "Hello Scott, Yes, we did get your return, and we did send the back ordered items off to you.   You should have them any time. Sincerely, Darren @ BFY" That was received 10 days ago. We are now on day thirty something. One month and one week. No parts, no info, no tracking number, nothing, nada, zilch..............
So now I'm going to have to use my charge back rights with the credit card company and blah, blah, blah. OH wait! here is the really cool part, my account, the one at BFY Obsolete.com, the one that has had my password locked in my browser since day 1...........gone. No problem I'll use the recover password.......nope "email not valid".  OK wise ass I still have the email with the "click here" to sign in when I signed up.........well the joke is on me, my account has been deleted. I have all these emails that say I have an account but all of the sudden......................flat line, fail to exist.

I have been waiting for my wiper switch for 2 weeks now and i am getting furious with them i hardly order from them now ever since i found out that WW got the fastest shipping ever and aircooled and oeveedub.

Years ago, when it was still "Bugs For You", they had some great parts, great prices and great customer service......but I think those days are gone.  At one time I think Rich Kimball ("Collectors Corner" in Hot VWs magazine, one of the prime sponsors/founders of the VW Classic, and owner of "Ovals Only") was a part owner in BFY and the store (pre-Internet days) was a fun place to shop and shoot the breeze. They could answer just about any vintage VW question a person might have....  But things are different today.  I haven't purchased from them in probably 10 years....Like Brett said Wolfsburg West, OEVEEDub and Aircooled.net get my business.

Today is day 41 and I received a package. A very small and light package. One billet sump cover and a F U note that stated the remaining items would not be shipped and they would issue a refund. What about my tail light that I sent back? "Well, uh, the guy that handles returns is on vacation and won't be back for a week. I'll have to talk to him."

What a joke this company is. Please keep them in mind when you need a good screwing.

I am done with BFY.

It took weeks to get a rear rubber window seal, just got it yesterday
and it wasn't because it was out of stock. Then again, who knows?

You just don't get to know, "it's shipped" seems to be the common response.

That teaser of a Fedex # field at the bottom of your order just shouldn't be there if
you never get to see the #. It gives you some false hope you may be able to track
your order. 

I will never order from them again. The response I got from Darren finalized that.

Do these people not realize there's an internet out there, populated with VW owners and VW forums who talk to each other?  Gone are the days where you can screw the customer and take the chance that two dissatisfied people never meet.  Now, they have the power to spread the word in minutes, and the power of numbers to show how many people are getting the shaft.

You'd think customer service would be top notch these days, not something as pathetic as described by some of the posts in this board!

Yupp Gonna get worse Im afraid ! Area where Im at , when it was boomin !! Everyone In L.A. moved up here ! Mostly South Central L.A. if you ask me ?
  They sold there house's 10 time's what they were worth , bought up here at prices 7 time's what they were worth . Now Houseing market has crashed !
  Gas is up goin on 5 buck's a Gal. the commute down the Hill is runnin average of 500 a month just in fuel << Not includeing wear and tear on the Vehicle's !

Somewhat of a highjack, but to a large extent, Sean's right. If you want to see how the different areas are faring with respect to the housing market take a look at:
http://www.zillow.com/search/RealEstateSearch.htm  Put in any address in the search bar. Once the property shows up, hit the "see home info" link....the 1 year, 5 year and 10 year trends will really depress you.  Fortunately, in Colorado, we are a bit insulated compared to the left and the right coasts. And gas is still only $3.77/gal.....did I say "only"?!?!?!

Good customer service is getting to be rare anyway.

Through a mistake on my part, I can't gain access to my photography website.  I've called five times to have my password reset so I can get in and manage the account, promised five times that it would "take a couple of minutes, no problem" and I have yet to receive my access code. Called twice this week and the "only" guy who can do it is out to lunch....okay...must be a really, really, really, long lunch.

72 days and I have a refund!!!!!!!!!!!! Amazing costumer service, they got my money back to me in under a year! Well I did have to cattle prod them with the charge back from my CC company but what the hell.............it's here.

So............I've been following your rant here about BFY.  It has been most interesting, to say the least.

Well, I happened to stumble on a similar rant thread concerning BFY over at the Samba.  Have you been posting up over there also?  The reason I ask is that the experiences detailed over there seem to go hand-in-hand with your "learning experience"
