Clancy,
I may have given you the wrong impression about the Attorney General in Montana. They were, in fact, very interested and sympathetic with my situation. I talked with them for about an hour. I had sent a formal complaint to them and after about a week or so I called to follow up. They said they had received my complaint and it would be on file in their office should other complaints come in against Golden Beetle. They then went on to explain that Montana is a "Buyer Beware" state and it is up to the consumer to research and validate any business in the state of Montana. They were sympathetic and understood our dilemma, but explained that under state law, they could not act on one complaint. They said that there must be multiple complaints (3-5) for them to take action. They said that my complaint would stay on file and if they received additional complaints against Golden Beetle they could, and would take action. So, I strongly urge anyone who has had a bad experience with Golden Beetle to notify the Attorney General in Montana and we can get 3 to 5 formal complaints filed then they can get involved and force Golden Beetle to take action or suffer the consequences.
I heard back from the Attorney General here in Kentucky yesterday. They told me that they had sent an official letter to Golden Beetle requesting a resolution to this issue. They said that Golden Beetle has 30 days to respond to the letter. I am still waiting to hear back from the Better Business Bureau in Kentucky as well as the BBB in Montana. It looks like the AG here in Kentucky may be my best chance of some sort of resolution at this point.
Again, if anyone out there or you know anyone who has had a bad experience with Golden Beetle and Peter Seabury, please report your experience to the Attorney General of Montana. If they get 3-5 formal complaints against Golden Beetle they can step in and take action. I find it very hard to believe that I and myvwbug1234 are the only ones that have been deceived and ripped off. If you have any questions or need assistance with how to contact the Attorney General please contact me directly at the e-mail address below.

Another story with results that seem typical now of Golden Beetle.
Come on, duct tape? There are so many other incorrect ways of patching, like pop rivets and bondo!
If this is doing the
best he can, this is weak! Is there no pride in the work over there? Or are they too busy trying to get the funds generated
on promises into a private bank account anticipating the impending doom! An assumption yes but, what else is there to
go on? It makes no sense to think that this somehow wouldn't come back to bite him. Referring to the duct tape patch.
You can't remain in business with examples of your work out there like this.
Anyone else need to step up and report their experience with 'ol Pete?
Thanks for the post Randy, I hope you were able to locate someone to fix the so called fixes from them. It seems that
a new company could spring up in just un-doing the jobs GBC co. has done to VW's.

Yeah...with any business you going to have satisfied customers & dissatisfied customers.
But some of the restoration techniques (duct tape) that have been mentioned in some of these postings...there is just no excuse.
And NO reputable company would ever use duct tape for any part of an automobile restoration.
WOW...Golden Beetle Car Company really sounds like a real "flim-flam" operation!!!
Of course they have a nice website! ; )
Well it looks like we can add another victim to the steadily growing list of scams by Golden Beetle Car Company and Peter Seabury. This sounds like another chapter of a book I have unfortunately already read. At first I thought maybe we got ripped off because we are 2000 miles away and by the time we found all of our problems it would be too much trouble to do anything about it. But this guy is bold enough to do this stuff to people who live in the same town. It's almost impossible to believe that he has the nerve to even try to get away with it.
Our bug is now going through it's second restoration process. Most of the work so far has been to correct what Golden Beetle did wrong. Most of the cosmetic parts that he used were the wrong shape/size for the year bug that we have. Almost all of the mechanical work he did has had to be redone. Bolts were loose causing leaks and other unsafe driving conditions. The "restoration" job that they did to our bug is downright pathetic.
I wanted to let Randy know that I have another thread going over on Samba to try to inform everyone in the VW world know about Golden Beetle and try to prevent others from getting ripped off like we did. Randy if you would like to post your experience there to warn others here is the link: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewto … highlight=
My quest against Golden Beetle and Peter Seabury continues as I will continue to post words of warning anywhere I can. Please help me in warning other against this deceitful and dishonest company.
BEWARE OF THE GOLDEN BEETLE CAR COMPANY AND PETER SEABURY!!!

This is the Duct tape job.

I wasn't kidding.
It is being fixed now by someone that is taking the time to take these pictures for my mother.
She is the one that wanted me to post here. She can't because of the Wed TV thing. (I think we should have bought her a computer instead.)
After reading all these posts (and those on Samba) regarding GBC, I feel better about my purchase on eBay...
Thanks at least for that. I bought a '71 with salvage title, meaning it needs to pass an inspection in my state. I don't think it could. I've had to pull the tank and flush it, replace clogged filter, flushed out the line (I'm waiting for the rain in Georgia to stop before finishing the tank dryout - car stalled coming off the truck). The car has a lot of little problems, and I haven't even checked for the big ones. Little things make you think "sloppy job". Like glove box door sticks, the glove box is metal, looks hand-fabricated, sheet metal screws are missing, no sun visors, front bumper on passenger side held on by one bolt (found this out when I tried to use it to push myself up and it rotated). Passenger side running board - you can see the bolt toward the front that is supposed to hold it is backed out... underneath bolds missing from rear bumper. Dash pieces on side of speedo are held on by screws. Emergency flasher is broken off, just past piece that screws onto it.
Once I finish the tank, I will need to look further - or take it in to my VW guy to check it out. I don't want to pay $100 for inspection more than once.
Fortunately, I only spent $3k... +$1k to move it. And I wasn't promised an "as new" bug, but one that was driven daily that was supposedly in great shape (eBay auction claimed you couldn't tell why it was a salvage vehicle - there are sure signs of a poor restoration).
This is the Duct tape job.
I wasn't kidding.
Thanks a ton for that picture! Absolutely unbelievable that any auto restorer would do such work...and charge Top Dollar for it!

I think what VW1971 is saying is that he/she is glad they DID NOT buy from Golden Beetle Car Company. Just your everyday auto sales transaction on E-Bay.

It's just that I'm feeling better about my transaction. You know, misery loves company, it makes them feel better, especially if their luck is worse. I bought mine from a private individual on ebay but won't make that mistake again. Nothing better than kicking the tires yourself...
I wish you the best of luck with this character...
Just a quick update on our mission to warn the unsuspecting folks in the VW world who have not yet been scammed by this deceitful scoundrel, Peter Seabury and The Golden Beetle Car Company. We have made several discoveries by contacting various public record sources in the state of Montana. This Peter Seabury has a very sorrid reputation and how he has been allowed to get by with such blatant misrepresentations for so long is beyond me. Peter Seabury should be put out of business, behind bars and made to pay restitution to everyone that he has fraudulantly taken money from. One particularly interesting website I came across was http://app.mt.gov/conweb/ if anyone is interesting in viewing, and type in the name Peter Seabury.
You would think an honest person in the service industry would respond to a complaint from the Better Business Bureau and attempt to come to an amicable agreement with a dissatisfied customer. Not Peter Seabury, he just thumbs his nose and lets it go as on record as "unresolved", making only one very brief and erroneous statement in reply to three notices from the BBB.
I noticed in the posting from Ratnel regarding a car for his mother, Peter used the same phrases to them that he used to us: "You get what you pay for and we do the best we can, which is better than most"...Seems he uses the same line on everyone and it is always someone else's fault.
Another interesting thing we have found is that he always asks for cash for the delivery or pick up of a car. I know for a fact that we paid him $l,000 cash in hand, person in Florida paid $1,400 cash in hand and someone in Georga paid $1,500 cash in hand. Wonder what happens to all these cash payments? Wonder if they are reported as business income?
We are trying to prevent anyone else from becoming entangled in Peter Seabury's web of lies and deceit. Please pass the word to anyone you know who may be considering purchasing or restoring a VW to read all the web postings. Unfortunately, when we were searching, there was no postings positive or negative anywhere we searched. We took that to mean "no news is good news". However, we are now paying dearly for that conclusion. Any one who is interesting in assisting in the cause, can post on this website or contact me directly by e-mail 88carfan@insightbb.com

Some of you may remember this thread.
Apparently Kevin's efforts to get some kind of justice look to be ongoing at this point in time. I was just over at e-Bay and Peter is still peddling these "Golden Beetles" to the internet crowd.
