Topic: cleaning electrical contacts for starter

I've asked around and a few people have told me brake or carb cleaner to get metal contacts cleaned up.  I understand carb cleaner will melt plastic but is brake cleaner safer for plastic/rubber?

after i've cleaned an electrical contact and put it back on, is there a decent way i can seal the metal so it wont rust right away?  (rubber covers?)

Use Caig Chemicals DeOxit contact cleaner. Best stuff I've found for cleaning and keeping contacts going.

To remove the road grime, I've had a lot of success in cleaning up starters and generators using the CRC Lectra-Motive products: http://www.crcindustries.com/auto/conte … 18&S=N in the aerosol cans like this:
