Topic: looking for beetle engine nova scotia

Hi,I have a 71 beetle and the engine is corroded at the bottom, causing a large oil leak.I was wondering if anyone knew of a place in or near Nova Scotia where I could get an engine or engine case. I live in Cape Breton and I am also looking for a place that sells parts in the maritimes .Thank you

Re: looking for beetle engine nova scotia

I seen a 1600 on kijiji a month or so ago in NS.If I can remember right I think it was rebuild and was around $600.If you do not know this site it is linked to ebay.It is at the bottom of the main page.As far as parts I order all mine from cip1.com in BC.Fast shipping and good prices.

Re: looking for beetle engine nova scotia

Thank you Tim'I did look for the engine that you are talking about but it must be gone ,I couldn't find it.Oh well I still have a month or so to get one before the weather get's nice enough to take it out I do buy a lot of parts from California imports they are very good to deal with .Thanks again Wayne

Re: looking for beetle engine nova scotia

I thought of another person who might have a engine or a case is Dave lavie in PEI.He is located just outside of Charlottown on the road to the ferry to NS.He has a ton of parts.

Re: looking for beetle engine nova scotia

Re: looking for beetle engine nova scotia

I tried calling him today on prices but didn't get an answer he couldn't have been home.  Getting parts from the UK must be expensive as well.Wayne

Re: looking for beetle engine nova scotia

He works through the days in Charlottown.Best time to get him is in the evenings or weekends. And yes he prices are alittle on the high side. Here is a # to a guy just outside of Fredericton 506-363-4629.His name is Bev.I have got parts from him and I know he has tons of old beetles and I think he is going to start crushing this spring. His prices are really cheap.

Re: looking for beetle engine nova scotia

thanks for the number tim, im always looking for parts, there is very few of us vw owners in newfoundland, the few that there are don't give up parts very easily trust me i tried last year  looking for a rebuildable engine ,
some lady seen my add in the buy and sell for a few non essential parts i was selling as these were off an 70 dune buggy i had found and scrapped( a real frankenstein for a vw lol) anyways she said she had a 72 beetle with a sunroof if i wanted to buy it for 500 bucks,
long story short , the bug was beyond any sort of repair except the engine which was solid , engine deck lid and a few odds and ends which she sold to me for a measly 100 bucks (score)

there is a place here in st. johns called c & c automotive but they buy their parts from cip1 as well and the prices reflect it, so i don't buy from them as they don't stock anything anyway

good guys but easier to get it myself

good luck with your engine search, if i hear of anyone looking to sell one i'll let you know

I don't really have much left now. Most of what I had was lost when my storage building burned a while back. There are still a dozen or so late 60's-early 70's Beetles left but they've been picked over pretty good. The only thing I have that I'd consider selling that's still restorable is a rough but complete 74 Sunbug. There is another guy in Fredericton who has lots of parts though. His name is Ron Wetmore.
