Topic: Texas Drivers and Ice Storms

When we have a winter storm here I try to stay off the roads rather than play target. Doesn't always work.

Tom,

Sorry to see you had some trouble with the ice.

Air-cooled VW's since they have the engine in the back have pretty good traction...but because they don't have much weight up front, stopping & steering suffer when the roads are slick!

I definitely have had my close calls in my ACVW's over the years.

Good luck with the repairs,

Re: Texas Drivers and Ice Storms

Well, for the record I wasn't driving. I was raised in Michigan & the U.P. and have no trouble on the frozen stuff - those reactions never go away. However even a car parked in a big empty lot can end up as a target.

Re: Texas Drivers and Ice Storms

Tom,

Even the best drivers can have trouble on the ice.  I've seen military tanks slide down a hill on ice...and of course they have a hell of a lot more traction than a VW.

Sometimes it just can't be helped.

I am assuming that the person that hit your bug didn't stick around...unless you were real lucky.

Still too bad...hopefully it won't take too much to fix.

Not again !  Your Mexi hasn't had good 12 months has it ?  Rear end, storm & now this !  We had a "little" ice here last week but it wasn't bad, just bad enough for me to break the antenna off the cabriolet while scrapping the windshield. Winter really just arrived here last week, we had 18" of snow on Dec 1st and it was in the 50's 5 days later and stayed there until last week.
