Topic: What Is It?

ok seen this vw truck the other day and kinda wondering about specs on it. It was a normal single cab with couple of bucket seats in it , VOLKSWAGEN stamped n the tailgate, the front had the old style of emblem wiht two round headlights and the blinkers were down torwards the center of the bumper(on the sides of the L-plate holder). I've herd it was a rabbit(I think) but I looked on cardomain at stock one and this was TOTALLY differnt. SO as they ask on this old house: What Is It? Looked pretty old too btw.

71: Split front window? Like this?: http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/301612.jpg
or this: http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/299782.jpg ....but they don't have the name across the back....Unless someone grafted a rabbit truck tailgate on to it....

Volkswagen spelled like on the "rabbit" truck?: http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/299700.jpg although you said it wasn't. This is the only "truck" I'm aware of that has the whole word "VOLKSWAGEN" across the tailgate like this: http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/195996.jpg (the "no-cab" model!)

But Brazil made some interesting variations on the old Bus, single and double cabs.

And some "new" ones:

Just some thoughts.

71: By "third one", do you mean the Rabbit truck? Maybe a customized Rabbit?? Sounds like it's time to put your camera-phone to good use!!

Re: What Is It?

Hey Clancy, While were on the subject of VW trucks, I want one so bad I can almost taste it. My first choice would be a double cab like the second photo my second choice would be a single cab like the first photo.Obtaining one is becoming an obsession with me. I've finally got the go ahead from the Mrs.
The only hold up is that I want one running and  in fair shape for around $2500.00 and close enough for me to go and get it in one day. I would really like to get some more info. on these vehicles, like were they born that way or is it some kind of conversion kit? what years ect..
Any info or some more cool pics would be great.
thanks steven

Re: What Is It?

Steven: As I recall, in addition to VW actually making the single and double cabs, there was another company that coachbuilt these bodies....Look here and scroll down to Binz:

The reason why vw started making trucks was that the coach built ones where so popular. Kind of the same reason why ford started making trucks. Coach builders where turning model t into trucks and they where very popular, so they decided to cut out the middle man and make all the profits.

Anyways sounds like a you saw a custom Caddy(the rabbit truck), head over to vortex and you can probably find(just ask they'll post) some custom pictures. VW comerical trucks are so are rare in the state, I doubt that's what you saw. As well do you have a local club? If it truely something rare one of them may know something. Check out these links:

Re: What Is It?
