Re: 1960 Bug ground up restoration project. FOR SALE!

Howdy all.
It's been four months and finally getting close to working on the bug again.

What was the delay?
We sold our house (bye bye clean shop floor) and bought another.

It's all good though. I get a bigger shop out of the whole deal and the wife's as happy as a pig in a puddle with her new home. So life is good!

I've decided to send the engine case out for chemical treatment and once I get it back it all gets put back together.

I'm stoked.
I'll post pics when I can.

Re: 1960 Bug ground up restoration project. FOR SALE!

Doug, welcome back.  I was a little confused by your very first post on this.  You said you didn't know anything about Volkswagens but you've already done all this work on the car.   I'd guess at this point you probably know way more then most who come here asking questions.

So what color will this 60 be when you are done?  My first car was a Coral Red 60.  Paid $100 for it and drove it home.

When you get around to doing something with your 70, you will find everything is different  In my opinion, things started going down hill after 65 when Nordhoff left the factory.

Any way, good luck and please keep the pictures coming!

TA-DAAA....Here it is!  Finally.
http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/382788.jpg
Rebuilt, repainted and all fluffed up.
Once I got a couple wrinkles ironed out it fired right up.  purrrrrrs like a kitten.......with a mild case of the hickups. Got some carb and timing adjustments to do and fix one very minor oil leak.

Soooooo, now it's on to the body real soon.

Check out this contraption I made.

It that crazy or what???
http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/382786.jpg
I can rotate it "almost" 180. This will really come in handy when I go to paint it.
And the total cost for it came in under a hundred bucks.
That made the wife happy...............WOOT WOOT!

More to come.

Yeah you got too much free time on your hand's ??/ LMAO But I do like it ! Rottiussirie Bugg ??
My Dad has same type small trailer ! Almost but not quite big enough !
Told him not to buy it !
His answer was you got that old converted boat trailer for haulin Bugg's ! Yeah 4 year's later it still isnt registerd ! Had too borrow a trailer too move Bug's ! Aside from that it's heavy etc . etc.
  Wonderin here ?
I gotta Huge Cherry Picker ? Wonderin ifn might come up with somethin that'd adapt the trailer too haul complete car's ?? Possibly even disabled complete car's missin wheel's etc. Cause Even with a borrowed trailer disabled car's are a pain !
Interesting non the least ! Beat;s layin on your back with an angle grinder !!

Re: 1960 Bug ground up restoration project. FOR SALE!

I would need lott's of touch up paint !! LMAO
You replaced hinge pinn's ?? Im sure you did !
But what I see on most painted Bugg's is bare metal in the Door Jamm's where the door tend's to rubb ! Even with new Hinge Pinn's often this is the Biggest defect that occur's ! Open the Door and the Jamm is Bared shinny !
Probably the Hardest thing to get right ! Especially after Body off Resto !

I painted my Bug myself and I don't have any bare metal showing. It must be the quality of paint that is being used.

ROFLMAO

Sounds like you were a regular Hue Hefner of the Drive in Movie scene http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:7yad7GXeUlpETM:http://www.citytv.com/images/shows/girlsnextdoor_lrg.jpg.............. You rock.

I bet you have at least one t-shirt and ball cap that says "YEP, BEEN THERE DONE THAT"

Sounds like all I have to do is keep all those "dumb-ass Blonde Bubble Gum Chewin string Bikini Model's" from sitting on my door while it's opened and problem solved. But alas, since I've married, I've had to turn them all away so I think I'm good there.

Rest assured "Mr. Hefner" the doors do not rub on the jams wink
