Re: Is This A JOKE????

I got mine in Arkansas for $1500 (at my wifes insistance) and I feel like we got robbed. Of course that didn't stop me from pouring a ton of cash into it.

OMG LMAO!  I offered $100.00!!  Said "The owner will not accept offers this low, please make another offer"  Gimme a break!

Re: Is This A JOKE????

I would agree with Emeeder, that a nice rust free Cali car is worth more in Ohio (or the rest of the Upper Mid-West or Northeast)...I would just debate the amount of the differential...and of course an individual car's condition (rust free, paint, interior, etc.).

Come on clear yellow distributor caps aren't cheap.

By the way anyone else notice he claims 71 was the first year for the 1600cc?

Re: Is This A JOKE????

but it is priced closer to its value than the other one

Re: Is This A JOKE????

Yeah...$50.00 might even be high...not exactly the condition you normally think of in a California car!

Re: Is This A JOKE????

I don't know, it would probably take another $50 to get the blood stains off the headliner........

Re: Is This A JOKE????

Isn't the engine alone worth $50?

Re: Is This A JOKE????

what if it was free. are you gonna drive to cali and pick it up? let alone pay shipping? maybe worth $50 if the car was right next door and the seller used his labor to bring it over to you. and then you deminish your own homes value by having an eyesore. if this was at my house, i prolly would give up mowing the lawn and picking up the kid toys. i just scrapped a good running saab for that reason. you gotta consider the negative white-trash factor when you put cars like this on your property. some stuff isnt even worth the waste of time looking at the ad, unless you get a laugh out of it, then you could chalk it up as comedy like reading the funny papers (or some of my posts).

Re: Is This A JOKE????

No sponge, I wouldn't drive to California to get it.  However, if I did live near where it is (20-25 miles) I'd go get the engine/transaaxle just to have a spare base for future use, pay a scrapyard $15 to haul the rest away and consider it money well spent.

Would you pass up an engine and transaxle for $50?

I simply questioned the value of the engine; I didn't suggest anything about the whole car.

Re: Is This A JOKE????

if i currently lived in california (i used to at 2 different times)and i didnt see the pic of the car first i might, but 20-25 miles is on the cusp of not bothering, especially in the socal traffic. ive seen 25 mile turn into 3 hours one rush hour.  mind you, i threw away tons of good stuff over the years. i would have to be in need. actually i have a few different opportunities to get a ton of vw stuff (motors, trannys, door, fenders, pans, shells) real cheap to pick up, but i would have to drive a half hour plus into the backwoods of upstate ny and then have to get into some agonizing conversations with woodchucks for some stuff that may be way over-hyped on the phone by said woodchuck. besides, everything up here is rotten. my biggest regret is scrapping some type 3 cars for $50 each....they were worthless 9 years ago, it was to tough to move the parts online, now i find out that the front and rear signal lamps fetch a good buck used and i had a ton of them amongst other stuff.

Re: Is This A JOKE????

Well, it certainly is not a "fixer upper" as stated in the ad.  The car is totaled, but there still appears to be quite a few useable parts.  If I lived near there and could use those parts, I would pay up to 100 bucks for it.  I think it has more useable parts than the bug in the ebay link that started this post.  And if you will notice, this bug may be totaled, but the FRONT SEATS MATCH!!!

Re: Is This A JOKE????

you gotta put a price on your time. ive finally realized this not too long ago....
every hour you spend on junk is an hour you could spend on your real ride, or with your kids, or trying to make money instead of spend it.
