Re: rear engine cover question

71: You do have your orange Bentley manual don't you?? If so, in Section 4 on the Body, there is a section on the spring and the hinges. In short, there numerous small bolts and threaded plates which hold the hinges to the body and a large spring which provides the tension to hold the lid open.

Not too clear and the spring doesn't show up very well but see:

Re: rear engine cover question

Ok when ya gett the general gist of how it goes on or the hardware for the hinges and what not ? Heres few tipp,s . 1 Be very carefull where the prop hinge bolts too the body . <<Dont be strippin the bolts in the body out . Or Over tightening them . 2 > Theres Suppose too be a U - plate goes over the prop hinge when u bolt the prop hinge too body . <<Add a Lil grease too the U - Plate<< Usually Missing  << Will help on adjustment . Then attach the Spring Too the Deck lidd first . Pick deck lidd up insert end of the spring intoo the body slott then flex deck lidd in place . << On this part I always tell um imagine car has a 6000.00 Dollar Paint Job on it . Imagine How P.O,d youd be if you Scratched The Paint ? Now On Deck Lidd Hinges them Selves . << Most likeley the threads will be stripped out on at least one or 2 of the screw holes . Usuall here is the threads are most likely just stretched . I pick the deck lidd upp hold hinge over the flat part of an anvil and smash the raised up thread,s of the hinge, screw hole back flat . If Done with care you can usually use a Slotted end screw too re chase threads , But if there Really Badd then you need a 6mm by 100 tapp too chase them . Go Ahead and Buy this Tapp Anyhow wether You need it or Not for Deck Lidd Its a Cheap Item <, Will Save Your blank thousand times over on your car . As Too Installin Deck Lidd << Practice gettin good at insertin spring end in the body slott and flexin the deck lidd  intoo place with out scratchin it . << For the day you do paint the car . Sean

ok I almost folowed that. On the one side of the left plate that sticks out from the body (know what I'm talking about? it like the plates in the last link above) one of the screw holes is either smashed off or most likly rusted off. My question was if you could buy a replacement one.

>>>>EDIT<<<<< I almost forgot I've found out how I'm going to repaint it. I'm going to do it all myself with the sort of how-to on this link:http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=2331682&page=0&fpart=3&vc=1

what do you guys think??

The big u-shaped hinge holders are probably best found at a salvage yard or swap meet, or Samba Classifieds unless you want chrome: http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp … C10%2D3035

Re: rear engine cover question

Are you talkin about the Hinge on Deck Lidd Or the Steel Bar << Not too be confused with The U plate . As Too the Barr that has 2 threaded ends on it . I have like A Drawer Full . As Too Hinges actually attached Too Deck Lidd There Spot Welded on . Drill Out Weld, and Remove . Or Just Fill Hole  with weld grind back flat Re- Drill and Tapp. Now if you need the Bar that is inserted in the Slott Hole Of the Car Mount ?? I need an Address I will send you one . As Too Car mount ? Rear Hole is threaded << Dont mess it Up ? Or you will be drillin the Spot welds out and Replaceing the Mount . << Not Easy ! Alignment and Adjustment ??? I had a B---h of a Time with the One I Did . Sean
