Are the heater channels completely rotten?

Re: Can you buy a replacement?

71: Buy the best heater channels you can afford. Personally, I'd steer away from JCW for anything structural of mechanical on any car. If you intend to try the work yourself, get the BugMe video. It will guide you through the entire process. If you decide to farm the job out, find a shop that's done it before. If you can't,  you can let your selected shop review the video. http://www.bugmevideo.com/frame/volume7.htm

As Patrick asked, if the channel is not completely rotten, you can buy the various components ot the channel, like the bottom plate or the running board mounting plate. These are "cut-fit-cut-and-fit-some-more" then weld into place pieces. See 5, 6, 7 (and 3 for the entire channel) http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/wolfsburg_ … _metal.cfm

Good luck.

Re: Can you buy a replacement?

The rocker panel is a lot more complicated than it appears from the outside.  It is a single unit composed of a door sill, heater duct, runningboard support and body support.  If part of this structure is rotted, the rest probably is too.  I'd suggest replacing the whole thing rather that the available parts.

Unless you are capable of doing this type of structural body work, stay away from it.  You can really destroy the vehicle if you screw up.  Take it to a professional (it will be expensive).
