Topic: Suggestions for posting
There seem to be a great deal of newcomers to the VW scene who are posting here, as well as a few old timers in the field. This is a great mix and we oldtimers are more than willing to provide our expertise to help out one and all with their problems.
I have noted however, a couple of trends that are time consuming and often limit rapid answers.
First,
too many questions are too general to be able to answer without additional information. The simple question: "I have a miss, what is wrong?" elicits the response "What year is your car?". Then you come back with: "It's a 1968." Them we have to ask: "Is it stock? What carb do you have? Under what conditions does the miss occur?" ...and on and on.
Give us the full story in the first question and your answer will be received a lot quicker.
Second,
a lot of questions are piggybacked on unrelated threads. A thread may be 5-6 answers into a question regarding wheel size with the most recent answer mentioning suspension clearance and someone will interrject a question about a ball joint problem. While this is a vaid question, it should be posted in its own new thread, otherwise it may not get an answer.
I hope I don't come across as being hard nosed about this; I'm willing to provide the benefit of my knowledge of my 35 year's experience with VWs, but it really helps if you fully, specificaly and accurately describe the problem up front, and post it where it can be seen on the opening screen.
