Topic: My engine size

I got a 71 super right? well acally I don't know if it truly is a 71 since the door label say it was build in november of 1971 so would that make it a 71 or 72? And I've seen a couple of engine sizes I've seen 1600cc and 1302cc(I think that was the size) would the year have anything to so with the engine. Again it's 197? Super Beetle Sedan and well it was "born" in november of 1971,so whould that mean it's 1972 or 1971? You tell me

Re: My engine size

71: In 1965(?), VW began designating its model years as starting in August of the preceding year. So, November 1971 should be a 1972 Model. If you're sure that its a Super, check the VIN:
If it has a 112 32xxx xxx it is a 1972; if it has a 111 32xx xxx it should be titled as a 1971. You tell us.

Also, if you tell us the engine number, we can tell you what it started life as.

Re: My engine size

Oh I'm sure it's a Super since it has the luovered front apron and the flat spare tire in the trunk, and only super beetles had those features right?

Re: My engine size

71: I often have a flat spare tire in the trunk of my '65....(joke), but yes, if it is lying in a horizontal position, it's a Super. For the exact year, if you really want a definitive answer, you will need to provide us with at least the first 5 digits of the VIN. Extra credit if you also provide the first letter(s) and digits of the engine number.
