Topic: VW crumple zone

To follow up on a previous post regarding WV's ability to meet the 1970's safety standards, had mentioned the ability of the VW to absorb a front end crash.

Here's visual proof:

Re: VW crumple zone

Just out of interest, what kind of speed would that be? Poor beetle!

I always thought (I think someone told me sometime) that beetles are regarded as extremely safe cars and perform well in crashes ... would that be a misconception?

Re: VW crumple zone

Will the Moderator please lock and/or eliminate this thread? This thread is NOT the purpose of this BB

Re: VW crumple zone

You'll find this board is largely unmoderated, and has been for years.

Besides, if items of general VW interest aren't for discussion here in the General section, then what is?

This particular thread isn't strictly technical (how do I fix this), certainly isn't an event and it's not an item for sale.  Personally, I found the post/photo to be of interest.  As this is the only VW board I frequent, I do enjoy the types of general VW related threads which develop in this particular area...

I might add...why ask for a 2 post thread to be locked after 22 days of inactivity in the thread?

DB: Gerry was referring to the offensive posts that have been deleted above his message but below the legitimate crumple zone posts....they were pretty bad. They were posted by "guests" and I guess that's the problem with allowing "guests" to post here.  Too bad they can't stay in their own chat rooms, or at least off the computers in the school library!  Clancy

Re: VW crumple zone

Ah...thanks for clarifying that, Clancy.  They must have been cleaned up before I browsed the thread...

My apologies, GM...

Re: VW crumple zone

Der Bugmeister, Thank you for your reply. While I don't consider myself a prude, the deleted posts were indeed vulgar and offensive as well as not contributing anything to the discussion of "crumple zones".

I've greatly enjoyed the content of this BB. And while I've been able to offer an occassional constructive comment or insight, through the generosity and knowledge of other BB members, I've learned much more than I've offered.

To all that provide and administer this BB, thank you for providing such a useful forum to the VW community.

Best regards,

Gerry Cullan

Volkswagen buses do well in accidents. Just look at how well this one did.
