Topic: Well, they finally went and did it!

Disney Pictures is releasing a new Herbie movie on June 3rd. called "Herbie Fully Loaded".  Maybe I should think that this is a good thing, but I've seen too many of the  movies or concepts from that era ruined by new versions.  Like "Planet of the apes" or "Lost in Space".  The cars look good though.  At least they didn't try to use a new Beetle.

At least they didn't try to use a new Beetle.

Until that last line, I figured that would be exactly what they would do.  A Turbo convertible new Beetle is what I figured they'd use.  Do you know what they will use?

I read a story write-up several months ago, so it may be changed or just wrong altogether.

Anyway, Herbie, a classic Beetle, aspires to be a NASCAR racer and gets into a few races.  Somewhere along the line, he morphs into a New Beetle and continues his carreer.

This sounds like trash to me, at least the part where he becomes a New Beetle..

We'll see...

Re: Well, they finally went and did it!

Yes 6v, most of the pictures that I have seen look like they reused Herbies from the original movies.  One looks like that "dirty" herbie that I have seen in VW mags.  The reason that new Beetles weren't used is because Disney people "didn't want this movie to merely serve as a commercial for the New Beetle".  In this film, Herbie gets involved in NASCAR.  They talked with Dean Jones about doing a cameo role but I havn't found out if it happend or not.  I would have liked to have seen him with Michelle Lee, David Tomlinson, Joe Flynn, and Benson Fong.  Alas the great  Buddy Hackett has passed on.  The "Fully Loaded" version stars Lindsay Lohan (female love intrest) Michael Keaton, Justin Long and Matt Dillon as the bad boy of NASCAR.  I bought the DVD "The love Bug, Special Edition".  Original cast and all that.  You get to see all kinds of stuff like interviews with Disney prop men, and film of a car show where people dressed up thier Bugs in a contest at Disneyland.  Pretty cool, well worth the money.

If possible can you promote the fact that we have a group of Herbie Owners across the US that donates thier cars to visit sicks kids.  Operation Herbie® Owners drivers visit sick children wherever they live. They spend time with each sick youngster answering questions about their sport, posing for pictures and handing out the distinctive Operation Herbie® buttons, assorted memorabilia provide by our sponsors. Herbie has brought a smile to what can sometimes be a very traumatic time, not only for the child concerned but also for the families involved. Please check us out at www.lovebugcentral.com

That is so cool. I see really young kids pointing at my car and getting excited and I wonder how does a new generation still know about Beetles or is it just the car looks like a toy?
