Tom, You can get the "Birth Certificate" on your car by writing and sending money to the registry in Germany. Do a search here or on Samba for the address and other info of where to send and how much money, around $20.00. They will send you the info on where and when your car was delivered, options and other info, maybe original color. For info on if your car spent its life in CA maybe a friend in the DMV or in law enforcement can run the plates, but I don't know and I doubt that the info is still inthe records. A friend was able to tell me that my 1956 plates could be used because the black and yellow plates with the same number were no longer registered. Car fax might be able to help. Some others here may be able to give more/different suggestions. Good luck, David
