Topic: ss hubcaps circa- 1944?

came across some hubcaps years and years ago that are from a vw, but instead of the vw logo, they have the german Nazi SS in the same fashion. I was told that they were made for an extremely elite group of 92ss vw's used by the SS for propaganda and war photos (they only made 554 92ss's for the SS, and of those maybe 50 were for propaganda). Does anyone know anything about these? Please email me--dnarigids@hotmail.com Thanks

Re: ss hubcaps circa- 1944?

Hiya All,

This thread reminded me of something that happened (to me) back in the sixties.  One of the guys I worked with at Fred's Shell station one day remarked that if you looked at the VW roundel embossed in the hupcaps as it revolved at speed, you would see the image of a swastika.  This was met with the usual amount of skepticism.  So the next day he shows up with a record player and a VW hubcap.  He places the hubcap on the turntable and hits the switch.  We never did see anything remotely resembling a swastika.  He claimed that the cap was not rotating quickly enough (even at 78 - an old record player!)  About that time Fred told us to get back to work.

Anybody out there heard this little urban legend?

Hiya Mark,

I was following your travails with the 30PICT3 over on another thread when I noticed that you mentioned that your engine was rebuilt in BC.  And you are in the Maritimes?  What's the deal here?  Or there?  Kinda far to go for an engine rebuild, isn't it?

Waiting to hear your answer on this one.  By the way, FWIW, the Duck is also 70 single port.  Love driving that beast!
