Topic: Gen Light Help
The generator light on my 73 bus came on and will not go off. It is charging ok but the light still burns. What do i do to check it out or fix it. I"m at a lose since it's charging ok.

Hey they were still usin Gen,s in 73 thought 73 was year volkswagen switched too altenators ? << Might check on this could be the problem ? 73 or 74 seemed too me but im not sure ? Especially on a T-4 ? But say came with alt and some body swapped a older Gen motor turn key intoo it . << Didnt get it wired completely right maybe ? Also i would like ta point out ? That Generator,s do suffer from polarity problem,s . << Hi tech bllsht word for the magnets inside gen not being magnetized . << This is accomplished by puttin battery juice directly too both ends of the magnetic feild via the Generator connection post ? Kinda like 3rd grade science class when ya use a flash light battery too turn a 16d nail intoo a magnet <, Same principle here . << very easy quick too do but it,s best if ya buy a manual for your Bus? There will be a wireing dia grahm in the manual on how too hook the generator directly too the battery with electrical wire too polarize it . NOTE: best too always remove the electrical connect,s from generator afore ya polarize it . <, In other words ya dont want the gen connected too the car wireing via the regulator , when ya polarize the generator . I said Gen light because that is what it says, but yes, it does have an alternator. Charges fine but the light stays on.

Hey was lookin at Vic,s site it has a wireing diaghram on the altenator conversion in there <, Might be some help ? Cause 73 is the year altenators came out i beleive ? << But like on a bus im not totally sure or a mid year model possibly might be ya were set up for Gen then later somebody up graded it ? Could be wrong or a hot wire is plugged intoo the bulb also but start checkin the wireing ? As buses are not my fortay i simply dont have the electrical wireing for them down loaded in my memory bank <, Mean,s with out lookin at it i dont know ? But i would compare A Manual wireing schematic too the after market altenator wireing schematic too first try ta figure out if the alt was OEM or the did it come with a Gen ? Then see if it was wired wrong ? Sean
