Monarch: Tell us a bit more....Carb model? Distributor model? To me dieing on idle sounds like either a vacuum leak (manifold boots, or flanges to heads or carb base) or a carb issue. Clancy

Re: fast but then no...

Hi,  I agree with Clancy, sounds like a leak fron the carb balance pipe joints to me.    I had this problem after a new motor was fitted to my T34, the balance pipe rubber tubes got disturbed and started to leak air intermittantly.
(I assume you have twin carbs fitted). If a single, the idle jet in the carb may be blocked, this is particularly common on PICT34 carbs.  Its the brass jet on the side of the carb.  Just unscrew and clean out.

Hey yeah what Clancy and Chris Say Pretty Much ? I Agree Cept if every thing is rght >> Timming , Point Dwell Etc And you are runnin a single pict 34 on it . Then i would ask ya what else ya thru in the 1835 motor as in cam << 20 engles and 110 engles or there equivalent,s do not like too idle at all with single carb > 34 pict in particular . Wich bring,s us too the idle metering jett that Chris mention,s Try Blowin and cleaning out first << If cammed at all pull this metering jet out looking at end goes into carb >> Meaning the round end with small hole in it and using a thin small file carve an X across the end of it so that the round part has a X across the end of it . << This will make  it idle with a camm and if blowin it out doesnt work and your runnin a stock cam it will also make it idle >. Should make the volume control screw responsive too adjustment . << One of first thing i do too 34 pict carb when idleing is a problem , Replacement jett,s are 4 buck,s a peice dont try thee large jett cause it too big just Hex end of one ya gott se if it fixes problem . Now on 1835 motor that,s the 92mm barrel,s << These suck the wall,s are too thin , heat up and distort , and are prone too excessive blow by and higher head temp,s . 90.5 mm barrel,s and pistons are much better choice givin ya 1776 motor I Prefer Mahle with total seal ring,s , Also we need ta know what dizzy your runnin a stock dizzy can cause trouble on a bored motor , 009 is preferd dizzy for streeter 1835 cc motor Sean
