Topic: Is This For REAL?

This guy is selling an old Beetle automatic transmission canister...is this for real? Does such a thing exist? I don't know that much about engines but I'm learning and I don't want to get ripped off. I asked him is this for converting a manual into an automatic without replacing the tranny....his response was simply "That's correct" nothing more. the ebay link is below for you all to look at to see just what I'm talking about. Maybe someone here can help me out. Thank you in advance.

The picture appears to be that of the vacuum operated solenoid that allows the auto-stick tranny to shift when you move the shift lever. This device WILL NOT allow the conversion of the standard manual tranny to auto-stick function. Avoid this transaction.

Just so you know, there is NO magic part for converting a standard transaxle to a semi-auto.  Not unless that magic part is the complete semi-auto transaxle, plumbing, pots, oilpump, stickshift, wiring, pedal cluster...

Hiya Blue,

Actually, the part pictured is the Clutch Servo out of an AutoStick transmission.  Via vacuum this little device moves the clutch in and out for shifts.  At $7.00 the price is right IF you have an AutoStick.

As has been mentioned, the Clutch Servo is just one of MANY parts you would need to effect a conversion from manual to AutoStick. 

He did mislead you, but perhaps it was unintentional on his part.  Knowledge of AutoStick transmissions and their component parts seems to be held by fewer and fewer each day.
